Vortx 4D Environmental Simulator

Whirlwind FX has created a new immersive 4D environmental simulator effects system called the Vortx which is capable of allowing users to feel on-screen effects such as fire or wind to enhance your immersive gaming, VR or video experience further.

Driven by a patented Environmental Experience (EX) algorithm, Vortx recognises and responds to on-screen elements in real-time to replicate events such as airflow and temperature changes. No developers or coding needed. Watch the video below to learn more about the interesting effects system...

I'm surprised there isn't an arcade scene renaissance going on right now with VR, custom control setups that the VR knows about (fighter jet cokpits, race car dashbaords etc) and then this 4D stuff thrown in. Imagine Outrun 3 with a proper ferrari dashboard, VR GFX and a massive fan simulating the wind etc or Topgun with VR and a fighter jet sticks & throttles, the seat getting hot when you hit the afterburners and shit. All with massive surround sound effects.

Finally the arcade can offer something home users can't do and yet the scene is dead. Such a shame.

I'm not sure having lukewarm air blown over my wsad hand will be immersive.

That's just it. Safety regulations will restrict it to non-flammable levels, but most likely that of a warm breeze.

a warm noisy breeze? cool rain? quite the niche market for a vr rig accessory. Yet someone will prolly buy this.

Would work will with VR games. I was playing Until Dawn on PSVR the other day and forgot that I had my fan on. I kept thinking, it sure is chilly in this this dark musty tunnel.

Japan has you covered with Dead or Alive Xtreme Sense

As for Dead or Alive Xtreme Sense, it’ll players hang out with the heroines and actually “smell” them through a scent function that is being added to the VR machine. There’s also a misting function that will allow players to get a feel for the water that gets splashed in the VR experience.

I hate to think what this thing does when someone tea-bags your corpse.
