The First Venom Trailer Featuring Tom Hardy! #Venom

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Watch the #Venom teaser trailer now. 10.5.18.

what a lame trailer.

hurstshifter 02-08-2018 07:30 AM

Is it really a teaser if it doesn't tease a damn thing? Show me more than the symbiote in a jar plz.

PacerDawn 02-08-2018 07:31 AM

As long as we get Emo-Venom, I'll be happy.

Ah, who am I kidding. This is a Sony movie. This is going to suck...

No shit. I can't even tell which version of Venom this is supposed to be. Eddie Brock? Flash Thompson? Flash Thompson with Eddie Brock's backstory? But without Spider-Man's involvement, Venom is just another biological weapon, leading to a generic Jekyll-and-Hyde story.

Evil Avatar 02-08-2018 07:43 AM

Whoops! Thanks Chimpbot, I didn't realize you already submitted this story. I just saw the trailer and jumped right in with a post!

Mad Max RW 02-08-2018 07:47 AM

It's Eddie Brock. The movie is a weird mix of several comic storylines, one of which involved Venom agreeing with Spiderman to leave NYC for San Francisco.

I like Tom Hardy and he looks to be the same character type as he played in Warrior. For me that's as good a fit as we're ever going to get. But I'm really disappointed we haven't had so much as a glimpse of the Venom costume. It's gotta be better than Spiderman 3, right?

Exodus 02-08-2018 07:48 AM

What is with tom hardy's accent here? he sounds like a pedophile

Watch the movie Warrior with Tom Hardy, Nick Nolte, and Joel Edgerton. That's his "American" accent.

Evil Avatar 02-08-2018 07:50 AM

I just died laughing at this twitter post.

Has Sony ever made a good super hero movie?

The first two Spiderman movies and that's it.

It's more of Eddie Brock with part of Flash Thompson's backstory; Brock is a soldier in this one, which is apparently how he ends up with the symbiote.

That's a pretty limited view, but from what it shows this looks terrible.

Is there really a pent-up demand for a Venom standalone film? REALLY?

karaliusbronius 02-08-2018 12:14 PM

Tom Hardy is good for certain roles but this one... eh. I thought he was worst thing in Mad Max, he didn't even do anything. I'm looking forward to more of a full trailer.

Spider-Man 1&2, and Spider-Man Homecoming?

Well, I mean, that falls on the script doesn't it? His character does what the script calls for.

I like Tom Hardy, and Venom is one of my favorite Marvel characters. Hell, Venom was almost my first tattoo.

Wasn't Spider-Man Homecoming made by Marvel as Sony let them?

What makes Venom (Eddie) interesting is the grey area caused by his relationship with Spider-Man. Making this a standalone is a huge mistake.

JazGalaxy 02-08-2018 10:08 PM

I actually thought this trailer was pretty good since I expected nothing. Venom is a terrible idea to make a movie out of. But This, tonally, seems engaging.

excalibur1814 02-09-2018 01:45 AM

The trouble with movies...

...is that there's sometimes FAR too much human interaction.

Transformers - FAR too much human
TMNT - Fantastic as it concentrates on the Turtles
Spiderman - Far too much teenage kid

I don't really 'care' that much for the person, as in the meat suit that Venom wears, when I'm watching a film that's supposed to be about Turtles, robots, or an alien parasite that needs a host etc. I want 20 minutes of Tom Hardy and 60+ mins of Venom.

What the hell am I looking at? The venom i know is a villain. Have they run out of heroes to make movies so now they are doing villians? How about some original IP then?

I need a lot more before I even bother Netflixing this shiz.

A decent break down of the current theory about Venom and the MCU.

Venom has skirted the line between villain and anti-hero for the majority of the character's existence. After Flash Thompson got it and went into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy, the symbiote ended up getting cleansed/healed/repaired by its species, so it stopped being crazy and violent. After a bunch of shit, the symbiote ended up with Eddie Brock again and was more or less a hero.

Basically, the symbiote went insane because of some of its former hosts and was "fixed" by its species. Now, it wants to be more of a hero than anything else.

It seems like they are just making a Spider-Man movie without Spider-Man. I'm OK with that. It could be good or it could be crap. Knowing that Sony learned a hard lesson with the last few Spider-Man films, I'm betting that it will be pretty good.

Thanks for the explainer, but Sony, if you are listening:
#notmyvenom
