Any recommendations on cheap MP3 players?

Title says it all folks. Cheers!

We just use the iPod in our house. They were really expensive at about $200 each, but they have lasted forever. My wife is still using an iPod 1 8 GB.

Yeah, people give apple shit but my ipod has been bombproof.

I really like my SanDisk Sansa Clip+. It can be expanded with a MicroSD card and it has an FM tuner that the ipods don't. Of course it won't do apps or anything like that, but if all you're looking for is an mp3 player, it's hard to beat for the price.

Just make sure you download the RockBox firmware for it. Makes the UI more useful and customizable, and the default SanDisk firmware takes forever to start up with an SD card inserted for some reason.

I've had an old ipod in my car for like 6 years, even survived Vegas weather. That said it's platter based and will eventually fail. I'd suggest something Flash-memory based.

I still recommend going for a cheap windows phone like the Lumia 520

Just don't sign up for a payment plan, don't get a SIM card and shove a decent sized SD card in there and you'll have a good music player as well as other nifty stuff like a decent camera and downloadable GPS. It's what I've been using for almost a year now as a dedicated music player for my car. It has cool stuff like you can voice search for songs and stuff, thanks to it running the full windows phone OS.

I wouldn't use this old, outdated model for my main phone, but for a cheap MP3 player + a bunch of extras its worked awesomely.

I was going to recommend this, and I wasn't going to give all these other useful details.

Meet Cortana, your personal assistant, with the improved Windows Phone 8.1 experience.

I asked the same question a while back. I ended up getting a SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 8 GB, like MusicToEat linked to above. It gets the job done quite well.

I also got these ear buds for $7 too. They sound great. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A2EB8JELY10BHZ

Cortana is the windows phone answer to Siri (IOS) or Google Now (android 4+) She's also going to be in Windows 10. She works really well.

I don't appreciate them stealing a character from Halo. I don't care if they bought Halo, this is the rape of a character they didn't create.

I think you're going to be even more pissed when you find out how Cortana interacts directly with SPARTAN, the new web browser by microsoft.

They didn't make it though. I know they own it, they're a bunch of suits abusing what they bought because they could.

Agnostic Pope 02-28-2015 08:52 PM

Ownership works that way.

Anenome 02-28-2015 09:53 PM

I'm not saying they don't have the right to do it, I'm saying they have no right to expect me to like it.

Agnostic Pope 03-01-2015 12:22 AM

They don't care either; I know many people like the idea of having her on their phone. Me? Fuck getting anything outside an android. :P

I used zune's for a long time, but now I just use my phone (LG G3). I can't think of a reason I'd need an MP3 player anymore. Phone works in all the same situations, plus Bluetooth in the car.

Syl 03-01-2015 07:37 AM

Yeah, my phone is my main music player now (also an LG G3, which I have loved since the day I got it) but its nice to have a dedicated backup for the car.

Also 128 gig micro SD cards are still too expensive for me at $100, I can get a 3 terabyte harddrive at less than that!
