Fortnite Adds a 100 Player Battle Royale Mode

Announcing Fortnite Battle Royale

Hey Fortnite community,

We are excited to announce a new mode officially coming to Fortnite players on Sept. 26: Fortnite Battle Royale. 100 players. One giant map. A battle bus. Fortnite building skills and destructible environments are combined with intense PvP combat. The last commander standing wins.

Our Battle Royale mode is now in Public Test for Fortnite players and we would love your help testing the mode.

Just open the game and select Battle Royale. We expect the servers will probably break and there will be other crashes and bugs during the Public Test.

Wait... What?

Yeah, we made a PvP mode for Fortnite. We love Battle Royale games like PUBG and thought Fortnite would make a great foundation for our own version. A few months ago Epicís Unreal Tournament team began experimenting with the mode while the original Fortnite team kept updating the core game. To maintain game balance we kept the PvP mode completely separate from the PvE mode. The new Battle Royale mode was so much fun we decided to share it with everyone to get feedback.

This is also a great time for new Fortnite players to jump in because for one week only we have a 25% discount on our Standard and Deluxe Edition Founderís Packs. (Sale runs from Sept. 12-18.)

We are really excited about Fortnite Battle Royale and canít wait for you to play it. This is just the first version of the mode, and we will update Battle Royale and the core Fortnite game throughout our Early Access period and into launch. We are excited to grow the game with you and thank you for joining us on the adventure.

The battle is building. Good luck!

This is Epic pretty much announcing "Hey, our product is a complete failure, so we just copied what someone else is doing." How gauche.

Yay, another Battle Royal game type! Is this trend the new MOBA or Zombie Mode?

Out of all the games to add this option, the only one that I think makes any sense (even if the number of people per server is low) is GTA V. The online is pretty much BR already, so making it a game type was just a natural progression.

This... this is just a cash grab.

A game that is early access that is going free to play on launch adding another mode is a cash grab...

okay then

That actually doesn't look too bad to me.

Assuming that there is no parity between characters (ex. in BR Mode all characters are 5 Star with all stats unlocked, weapons have the same stats, etc) you will need to purchase Pinatas in order to get the best characters, weapons, and perks.

Second, Battlegrounds is hot right now, so they are trying to capture more Founders players (ie. people who will pay $40.00 upfront to play now).

So, yes, cash grab.

Failing? This was clearly in development before release. I don't know how it could be assumed that this is something newly developed because of a poor launch.

Been playing Fortnite every day since launch, not going to stop.

Have you played this game? It's more a less a casino with zombies.

I'm figuring they will probably charge by the bullet for this mode.

Actually looks smoother and faster paced than pubg. The building def adds another aspect. Interested to see how it pans out.

Fortnite is very successful. Selling Gears and making Fortnite was very smart.

New gameplay tutorial video for Fortnite leaked prior to the early 2018 F2P release.

Looks like they are willing to give up some of that cash. This was at the bottom of my Founder's Newsletter email:

Yeah, I saw that this morning. Good on them.

Kinda silly to ask for that refund though, because you still get the whole rest of the game. I guess the people who will be really mad are the people who paid for the $99 package when the game goes free-to-play next year.

Those people knew what they were getting into.
