The Elder Scrolls Online: The Dark Heart of Skyrim Announcement Cinematic

The Dark Heart of Skyrim beats from the depths in The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor, the latest adventure in the Elder Scrolls saga. A chilling evil from the First Era awakens, and Skyrim needs heroes. Explore the snow-swept region of Western Skyrim, discover Tamrielís hidden history, and face an ancient threat as part of a year-long story.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor is coming for PC/Mac on May 18 and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 2. Pre-purchase Greymoor now digitally to receive unique bonus rewards and gain immediate access to the Holdbreaker Warhorse in-game mount (digital only).

They really gotta stop it with this shit of trying to pretend ESO is a single player RPG with the way they are marketing these expansions. Even throwing the buzzword Skyrim in there. Just make a fucking single player game again.

Do you really want Marketing departments to provide an honest depiction of what playing an MMO is like?

I haven't gotten it yet, but the Shadowbringers expansion trailer for FFXIV nearly got me to re-up just from the story themes that were on display, even though I know it had as much accuracy on the experience as a music video's depicition of pop song lyrics.

Edit: I just rewatched it, seems I only saw an abbreviated trailer, and damn, it looks *nice*. These expansion trailers are as much about enticing people with the Rule of Cool as they are with people who understand what's going on because they had the prior context -- former subscribers.

Bethesda is gone as we know it. Zenimax has done a decent job with story/lore.

ESO is absolutely single-player friendly. They aren't just throwing the "buzzword" Skyrim out there; they are fleshing out lands that you can go explore and they are doing this with fully voice acted NPC instead of the bog standard MMO rubbish; it's not shabby.

Does ESO really scratch the Elder Scrolls / Fallout itch for those of you that play it? I tried it once a while ago and didn't get very far before getting a "vanilla mmo" vibe and stopping. Was I wrong? Does it get more Skyrim-ish later?

No and yes. It has ... good lore and story telling but is sub par compared to single player but you can play with friends and it has less MMO fuckery than most MMOs. I guess that's how I'd sum it up.
