NES Classic Mini Production Restarted

Irish Examiner has the story.

Quote:

Nintendo has restarted production of its NES Mini console and will restock the product in European retailers next summer.

Nintendo shared the news on the company’s official Japanese Twitter account (via Eurogamer), stating:

‘Nintendo has decided to restart production of the Famicom Mini in 2018. We will announce sale dates at a later time.’

A Nintendo spokesperson shared further details with Eurogamer, telling the publication:

‘We're happy to confirm that we'll continue to ship stock of the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System to Europe in 2018. In addition, next summer we'll also bring the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System back to Europe. More information will be shared in the future.’

When you combine this with the fact that they'll be producing SNES Classics for the foreseeable future, I think most folks who want to get their hands on either - or both - will be able to by this time next year.

I personally do not get the appeal, since there are so many good pc/virtualconsole/handheld(phones, psp, 3ds) emulators for all of these retro systems/games. But hey, the market has spoken, people love this.

Funny, after all the shit people gave them for stopping production and the artificial shortages.

Personally, I agree. Though on principle I think restarting production is a great idea (why Europe only though?) and shuts up people about the whole shortage thing.

Never underestimate the desire of some to pay for what is easily available for free.*

* As long as you already own an original copy of the titles in question! Right? Right!

*looks at Terran, *looks at spectral. umm. well. (cough) This is weird.

So which emulators should one use if wanting a good experience on the PC?

excalibur1814 09-13-2017 03:08 AM

Dolphin.

ZSnes.

There's so many it hurts.

Never underestimate the desire of some to pay for what is easily available to (technically) steal.

I agree, the production of this thing is retarded. Look how tiny it is, the carts will probably be easy to lose.

But seriously, I will be curious to see how this thing sells now that the want has been built up due to limited supply. If this thing becomes a top selling console, you have to wonder...

Seriously get a Raseberry Pi 2.

Mine works perfect and the lag seems to me, to be a lot less than my hacked wii or even on PC.

I ran into 2 snags during the whole thing. I didn't know you could do a (select all) with multiple zip files, extract and end up with an ISO image. Derp.

And configuring the TG16 controllers is giving me issue, i think i need a keyboard. Other than that it was super easy.

I use a wired Xbone controller with a 12 ft usb cable. Some are using wireless controllers but wired is fine for now.

Used to use an emulator going by Nesticle a few years back, don't know if that was discontinued though. Nestopia is still kicking far as I recall.

As for SNES, someone already mentioned ZSNES which works for most games, SNES9X if that doesn't work for you properly.

If possible, get one of the reconstructions of NES/SNES controllers with USB connectors and use those, they tend to work ok.

Which is why I always thought discussion on and criticism of the NES Classic Edition was so interesting. The NES Classic Edition is criticized for existing in the first place, for *not* being spammed on to the market, for being discontinued, and then for be brought back to the market -- all at the same time.

Woe be it I point out these contradictions.

Nestopia is good, but I normally use fceux which does a nice job emulating the Famicom disk drive.

It's criticized for not being a good value for what Nintendo gives you when most of these roms can be found for free. That's why it's been criticized. Along with the usual Nintendo habit of under manufacturing.

Before broadband, i ordered a MAME set on like 6 DVD's through a website. I remember being really worried giving my address. I thought i was going to jail, but it was worth it.

I dunno if any company should take into account all the piracy that goes on. I guess you kinda have to. Subscription based, leaderboards, multiplayer, nice UI. This is whats going to make money off of old games in the future.
