The Amazing Spider-Man - Manhattan is Your Playground

A behind-the-scenes video for Beenox's The Amazing Spider-Man
that illustrates how Manhattan is Spidey's playground. The video
is narrated by Brent Nicholas, Executive Producer.

A proper sequel to Spider-Man 2, finally? Guess we'll see, though it seems a lot of his web-slinging is attaching to non-existent buildings.

Don't know about the game, but did anyone else think the new movie trailer was just plain BORING?

Apparently the webs DON'T have to attach to buildings in this game. They did it to make web slinging through the city easier.

They did, though, in the ten year-old Spider-Man 2. And it made the swinging all the more exciting to pivot off buildings and navigate the maze, rather than just go wherever the eff you want because it would be 'too difficult' otherwise. So that's a bit of a bummer, in my mind.

Thanks for this info. If confirmed, this'll be a pass for me, too. I really liked this aspect of Spiderman 2, giving it a Tony Hawk-like challenge to navigation. Skill was required and rewarded.

The other aspect was the physics. If you were at a dead stop hanging from web and pressed the left stick, you had to swing around to build up momentum. They removed this from all the other titles, and I'm not sure why, allowing you to instantly swing out at a 90 degree increment. Momentum management gave the travel in Spiderman 2 weight. Otherwise, it was just flying with a different animation.

Many open world games are boring to transverse, but have interesting random events occur because of the environment. Spiderman 2 was the opposite. It was incredibly fun to travel around, and the missions themselves were tolerated in order to build up XP. One day, I hope we can get a good swing mechanic game again.

And no, Batman Arkham City's hookshot is not the same thing.

The fighting system look exactly like Batman's free-form system...exactly. Not saying you can't use an already existing idea, but I saw zero innovation with the concept in general.

So his webs can attach to air molecules now, which are made solid and can support his weight? WTF?

Count me among the numerous fans that were looking forward to the game until they found out about this. The majority of people agree Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man game, and the best part about it is swinging around the city. Of all the things to change and/or update, why would they change the swinging!?

Lords knows, it's been changed in every sequel since Spider-man 2. Why they refuse to restore what we loved about that game is beyond me. The story, the side missions, everything sucked in that game -- but the swinging was so spectacular, it was a nine out of ten for us anyway. And all we could think is -- how much better would this be if they built off this core mechanic and made a better game around it? But they ruined what we loved and have made mediocre (at best) Spider-man games ever since.
