Dev Room Progress Report Vol. 2

Greetings Everyone,

It has been a long time since our last update, and we are painfully aware you all have been eagerly awaiting the monthly report. All of us here have been so wrapped up in the development process that time seems to have flown by...

But no excuses! We apologize for the lapse and will do our best to bring you updates every month. It is beholden on us to keep you informed (without giving too much away of course!) and will do so as promised.

So here we go with vol. 2 of our dev room reports! (Watch it above)

Thank you very much, see you next month!

I'm really, REALLY looking forward to "Shenmue III", but this trailer was a whole lot of nothing. The most "exciting" scene is even spoiled in the thumbnail (okay, that was the YouTuber's decision, but still)... The Kickstarter backers are loving it, though.

Five minutes of playtesters testing the input lag on QTEs? No thank you. Really, these shouldn't be in the game anymore. It was a novel way to add interactivity as the medium was looking to better meld interaction and cut scenes but we all know they've seen their day.

Shenmue made QTEs famous though didn't it? This whole game is basically a throwback so it would be weird to not have them.

I loved QTEs when they were first introduced (I think I caught the ball on the first try), but I hated them immensely when climbing the 5 or so floors of the broken house in Hong Kong. I'm fine with them if they're used in high-pressure, time-sensitive moments. Hopefully, we'll see a more modern approach in other situations. The "Heavy Rain" mechanics worked okay-ish, if I remember correctly, and "The Walking Dead" improved on them.

It does seem weird to not have them. But maybe have them evolve in some meaningful way, or be more of a subdued nod. At least I hope they do something new with them.

Ryse was the best QTE game ever!
