Introducing Rebirth, a real-time cinematic produced by Quixel

Introducing Rebirth, a real-time cinematic produced by Quixel, harnessing the power of Unreal Engine and real-world scans from the Megascans Icelandic collection. With photorealistic results rivaling traditional offline renderers, Rebirth represents a new way of crafting computer graphics.

Set in the beautiful, other-worldly landscapes of Iceland, Rebirth brought together a team from VFX, games and ArchViz to produce a cinematic asking existential questions of machine/human hybrids.
Holy frigging graphics! I've never seen anything like this. Using a technology they call Megascans, Quixel has developed the most realistic-looking game world I've ever seen.

Do you have a gameboner yet or what?

That was some amazing looking terrain. Nice!

Ummmh, shouldn't we have discussed this trailer when it was shown during the Epic keynote at GDC? Here's a bit that shows the editing process:

Still, I reserve judgment until I see this technology used in a real, freely explorable game map at least 1 square kilometer in size, not in a corridor specifically dolled up for a pretentious trailer.

Yeah, I will only be impressed when these kind of things show more than one or two characters and when AI is added to the mix. These kind of tech demos are great to show off overall technology in real-time, but in no way are indicative of any shippable product.

Good. Now make a proper Unreal 2 with it.

Looks great; better than what I've seen before but terrain is usually easier to render at higher quality without hitting uncanny valley.

The real proof in the pudding is people.

Very impressive. I wonder what the trees look like.

I thought the Star Wars one was more impressive than this one.

Now if Epic can get a hold of the Aliens and predator licenses, maybe we can get some real dynamic use of this engine!
