The Internet Thinks Thanos Looks Goofy, And Is Making Him Look Goofier

Game Informer has the story.

Quote:

The Avengers: Infinity War trailer came out the other day and people lit up with acclaim and speculation and a lot of quizzical looks at why Thanos looks so weird.

The Marvel comics supervillain that has a fetish for Infinity Stones and Death has been set-up as the Avengers' ultimate nemesis for more than a few movies, and thus more than a few years, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now that he has been officially revealed in a well-lit scene and not cast in shadows, the internet is wondering why actor Josh Brolin looks so much like a weird raisin in the role.

Thankfully, a character looking goofy means we get photoshops designed to amp up the goofiness and circle around and make us okay with the original goofiness.

I thought he looked fine. Looked like Josh Brolin with some CGI. What else did anyone expect?

Agreed, he looks fine. I remembered the comics immediately.

He looks like if Ron Perlman ate some of Willy Wonka's defective candy.

I think he looks better in the comic books with his swank headgear.

When i think of how Lord of the Rings CGI characters looked, Thanos looks really bad.

I thought he looked fine. Give him the helmet and it's a pretty darn close.

What comic character ever looked as good on screen as they do on paper?

Looks just fine.

MadMurdock_0311 12-02-2017 09:02 PM

It's the internet. They'll complain about anything and everything. That said, this is pretty fucking funny.

The last three incarnation of Spiderman. Iron Man is pretty much spot on. The current Hulk is great. Tim Burton's Batman was so good they based the cartoon on it. Zack Snyder's version is a very faithful adaptation of the Dark Knight Returns. The Christopher Reeve Superman is perfect. Wonder Woman looks better than the comic. Fucking Deadpool. Hela from Thor Ragnarok. I think the only ones who keep dropping the ball are Fox's X-Men franchise. Although the First Class costumes and the reveal of the new costumes at the end of Apocalypse were giant leaps in the right direction. I'm hoping they embrace the comics fully by the time Dark Phoenix comes out.

If you look at the first reveal of Thanos in 2012's Avengers through Guardians of the Galaxy they seem to have changed him up a bit.

Meh dont care what he looks like, cant wait for this!!

I'm ahving a hard time getting over Thanos beady little eyes, but everything else about him looks fine. The internet is just obnoxious and they seize on every little thing they can about anything they can.

ashikenshin 12-04-2017 06:44 AM

They shouldn't have removed his helmet.

The Russo's actually have a good reason for why he doesn't wear the armor anymore. When he was seen in previous appearances, he was a warlord; by the time we see him in Avenger 3, he already has a couple of the Infinity Stones. At that point, he's less of a warlord and more of a god...and gods really don't need armor.

I don't think super heroes or villains "need" helmets. Usually their skin is tougher than most materials anyway. It's a question of how the character looks. He looks dumb without his helmet.

Which is fair enough; it's all subjective, after all.

I appreciate the thought process behind the design choice, though; with the amount of power Thanos will be wielding, he won't have a need for any sort of armor.

It's not like they ditched it just 'cuz.
