How Microsoft Made the Xbox One X So Small

Full story at MSN

Quote:

The two teams worked together to build a machine that worked within the compact design it envisioned. The teams "found it would make the most sense to have the motherboard fit on the 'ceiling' of the console, and placing the optical drive and hard drive on top of one other to create the optimum stacking height of the system. … To continue with the efficient design (getting these parts into a small form factor) they placed the power right behind the optical drive. In turn, this allowed them to keep all the ports on the back of the system in nearly same place as Xbox One S so that when you’re upgrading to Xbox One X, set up would be as simple, yet familiar, as possible."

The Xbox One X is expected to be released on November 7th. It'll be the third Xbox One model released.

A 40k rpm fan. That's how.

Na, they did a good job on it.

RRoD incoming? :p I'd honestly stay the fuck away from this thing until the guinea pigs... err... early adopters get to test it...I mean enjoy it for a few weeks.

I trust MS would never release another flammable console after the RRoD fiasco.

Yep, I've had zero issues with my 360 slim, or my XBone S.

My bone has worked fine, i do have to use a wired controller. I tried all the fixes, nothing stuck.

It's liquid cooled and not overclocked, so its can't bloody overheat.

No, it's not liquid cooled. . Yes, it can still overheat.

"It's not my fault I didn't understand what they meant."

Vapor chamber cooling has been around for a long time and this is essentially just a glorified heat sink. They're quite effective and technically liquid cooled...but, it's vastly different from liquid cooling.

You'd see this same sort of method used in high-end video cards and server blades.

The first xbox 360 was rushed to market and they skimped on testing to get it done. I don't think this is quite the same scenario. Could be wrong though.
