Star Wars Obi-Wan Series On Hold

Quote:

Pre-production on the Obi-Wan Kenobi-focused TV series in the works at Disney Plus has been put on hold as the streamer and Lucasfilm look to overhaul early scripts and find new writers, sources tell Variety.

Hossein Amini had been attached to write. The news follows recent talk that the entire series was being scrapped altogether.

Ewan McGregor confirmed last August that he would be reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the series, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had said then that “we have all the scripts written” and that shooting was slated to begin in 2020. McGregor played the Jedi in three “Star War” prequels; after years of speculation that he might reprise the role for a standalone film, the less-than-stellar response to standalone spinoff film “Solo” reportedly dampened those efforts.

Deborah Chow, the director who helmed part of Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian” series on Disney Plus, had been tapped to direct the Obi-Wan series. Chow and McGregor are still attached to the project.

Disney did not respond to requests for comment.

I can help them out, didn't they hear about my scripts for Watchmen Season 2?

The longer they hold out the closer they'll have to get to the days of the Rebellion because he's already pretty old!

The report says that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy expressed dissatisfaction with the Obi-Wan Kenobi show’s scripts... The decision to take a step back to improve scripts seems to come from Kennedy’s desire to maintain quality control following recent Star Wars backlash.
Fake news. If KK was genuinely interested in 'maintaining quality control' she would show herself the door. Better bring in Jar Jar Abrams to give it the treatment that all 12 remaining Star Wars fans have come to expect from the franchise.

Baby Jes.. Yoda is SO cute.

That's all I can say about the subject of Star Wars.

Everybody was denying this a few days ago.

the worst crime the new disney star wars has made to me is..

I just don't care anymore. The prequels are pretty bad but they were at least interesting, expanding the lore. The new trilogy it is just... meh.

I grew up loving star wars, I am sad really, because I don't care anymore, Disney sucked the excitement for me.

Finally saw Star Wars Rise of Skywalker yesterday...

...yeah...

the movie was ok...but Disney needs to put the brakes on Star Wars and really think about where the franchise goes in the future before they ruin it entirely. Manadorian was good...but lacked any real depth either.

I mean... c'mon. Let's be reaaaally honest with ourselves here.

That's basically Star Wars.

It doesn't even take that much honesty, either. It's friggin' Star Wars.
I'll always love it (despite some of Disney's best efforts), but I've never been a fan of the series because of its narrative depth. I mean, sure, there's some meat on the bones if you feel like digging...but it ain't much.

It's incredible that Disney, with all its money and dominance on the culture, is having trouble getting a good script.

Did the writer not put enough in there for merchandising opportunities?

stalazon 01-24-2020 04:56 PM

I watched RotS in theater, but paid to watch Jumanji because fuck Disney.

I don't think the problem is that they aren't getting good scripts, it is that the suits upstairs don't know what a good script is and then want to meddle in everything.

Look at Rogue One, all the best battle scenes were left on the cutting room floor because Disney didn't want a Star Wars "war movie".

Or look at Ant-Man and Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness which both lost their writer/director.

People are turning in good stuff then Disney is turning it into mush.

That's because Disney would rather "GET WOKE GO BROKE" than actually make anything worth a shit.

A friend of mine, who is a huge Star Trek fan, summed up his thoughts by saying
"Star Wars fans are trash. They hate everything."

It's getting harder and harder to refute that statement.

Lindsay Ellis did a good job looking at Disney's track record with historical revisionism on a video essay of "Saving Mr. Banks." Key takeaway is that Disney pulls in elements from an outside culture or milieu and puts its own distinctive Disney branding on it to market to audiences.

That practice has worked so well for them in the past that it's been carried forward into other properties like Star Wars. You're 100% on that point.

I have trouble giving a shit as he went out like a bitch and his prize students both went out like even bitchier bitches.
Lemme have a Maul series instead.

excalibur1814 01-28-2020 06:39 AM

He couldn't kill his student's Father. He'd never forgive himself if he did and, more than likely, Luke wouldn't forgive him either. Complicated. End result? Light Sabre to the face.
