GRETEL & HANSEL Official Teaser Trailer

Quote:

The story you know hides a dark secret. From visionary director Oz Perkins comes a terrifying new twist on a classic tale. Watch the first trailer for Gretel and Hansel, starring Sophia Lillis (IT) now. #FollowTheCrumbs #GretelAndHansel

Is the “terrifying new twist” that they put Gretel’s name first?

If that's it, my expectations have been pretty much subverted here.

Looking forward to Disney's 2030 slate of movies: Genie's Day Out, Queen of the Pride Lands, The War in Our Stars: Hope Springs Anew, and Marvel's Unforgivers: Final Round.

American Horror Story GRETEL & HANSEL ;)

Not sure how this is going to be any worse than the original Fairy Tales which were pretty gruesome (though I don't remember Hansel & Gretel specifically).

As an aside, Gretel reminds me of how Spock looks as a kid in the new Star Trek movies. Maybe the twist is she's really a boy and Hansel is the girl? Or both are boys? From the trailer it looks like the town is in on it!

I like the imagery that harkens back to The Cell, I think if used right that could be fun. Hell, even if not used right that type of style is great.
I am, however, absolutely bored to tears with stop motion jerky scenes, people having hair come out of their mouths, large monsters who do the tyrannosaur shriek from jurrasic park, and masked serial killers who tilt their head severely to the left canine-esquely. This movie has too many of those so it's probably going to suck.

When you might not know the director, you must add something before his name,
"From visionary director Oz Perkins comes a..."

"From sandwich eating director Oz Perkins comes a..."
"From air breathing director Oz Perkins comes a..."

I think Gretel identifies as non-binary in this one, and the woodland witch (or whatever) identifies as magically delicious.

he actually changed his name because his previous work (writer/director/actor) in his own films is so lacking.

It's a dream of mine that you can look at art, or at least naked corporate exploitation of public domain stories, without putting it through the lens of political culture.

The movie is probably going to suck, but "wokeness in art" is also being passe and cliche.

That's the beauty of doing the same shit repeatedly for years -- eventually you get tired of it and say "Is that all there is?" I'm past Trump fatigue and into "Yeah, and? What did you think was eventually going to happen after Nov 2016?"

By the way, this is me taking YOUR side that movies being created that try to put a contemporary spin on a classic tale in the context of a differing cultural norms are a waste of time.

^Spec does that for a reason you know. He didn't just start noticing every bit of pop culture he may have held dear at one time was being made into subversive mockeries.

I thought it was Hansel and Gretel?
