Neil Peart of Rush, Dead at 67

Quote:

Neil Peart, the drummer of iconic Canadian band Rush, has died at age 67.

The influential musician and lyricist died Tuesday in Santa Monica, Calif., after having been diagnosed with brain cancer, according to a statement issued Friday by family spokesperson Elliot Mintz.

His death was confirmed by Meg Symsyk, a media spokesperson for the progressive rock trio comprising Peart, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson.
Thanks to my two older brothers, Rush has been my favorite band since I was very young. The greatest concert I ever saw was their "comeback" show in Hartford on June 28, 2002. While his earlier lyrics far outshine his later efforts, his skills on the drums were unquestionable. Rest in peace.

I'm going to be honest, I loved Neal Pert on drums but to this day can't stand to hear Geddy Lee's voice.

Rush is definitely a love ‘em or hate ‘me band for the most part. And it was comical how male dominated their concerts were. It was like going to some secret society meeting.

Definitely a sad day for music fans and Canadians in general.

I saw these guys live for Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures. What unbelievable shows.

Wow! And I thought I was old!

Rush is very hit or miss for me. Love the 70s and 80s stuff, but good god their 90s stuff is pure rubbish.

Favorite song is probably "Spirit of Radio".

At one point I had started an in-order discography listen, need to start that back up again. At least until I hit the 90s junk.

i started listening to Rush in 1979 when i was 7 saw the first of many many concerts in 1985. had the pleasure of taking two of my sons who love them to their R40 show which was their last tour. What an amazing band and Neil a brilliant lyricist, drummer, and composer.

They stayed true to their fans, their music, and their values. Never before has a trio produced such full complex sound. Rush were a live band with a rabid fanbase.

I feel old. I think of his opening lyrics to Afterimage:

“Suddenly you were gone...From all the lives you left your mark upon.”

I am not a HUGE fan but I did enjoy a number of their songs.

One guy I worked with years ago was an incredibly big fan. I think this may crush him.
