I watched Brawl in Cell Block 99 with Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Carpenter, and Don Johnson and directed by S. Craig Zahler who did the amazing Bone Tomahawk. The best movie of Vince Vaughn's career. As far as similar movies go I'd rank it alongside Bronson and Chopper. The pacing is maybe a little fast after he is sent to prison, but I was never once bored or lost. He is a tank of a man and kind of terrifying. The movie made the year for me.

I like that movie, but I thought the editing was bad. There seems to be scenes missing. Still, it was a lot of fun and I agree that Vaughn was great.

Yeah, after the first part things happen very suddenly right up to the finale. However, I couldn't think of a more fitting ending for him. And I had to freeze frame it. There was one scene that almost took me out and that was the shootout with the police. It felt like I was watching another movie like True Romance or something. I'm not saying I don't like True Romance (love it) when Brawl should stand on its own.

Was thinking about the movie a lot today and would love to see more of the character. A more fucked up prequel showing him before he got off drugs perhaps. There's a deep world setup reminiscent of the Pusher trilogy. Anyway, I can't wait to see the director's next movie Dragged Across Concrete with Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn.
