I hope this falls into the 50% of Black Mirror episodes that were great and not the 50% that were forgettable bores.

Does the Frankie goes to Hollywood background music mean the character is gay or that Information Society's Pure energy would have been more appropriate.

Just watched it, now I know where Telltale went when they closed shop...

We watched it last night and while it was a decent Black Mirror episode, it fails as interactive fiction because the story only goes in one direction no matter what choices you make. It literally makes you backtrack if you make the “wrong” choice and there is no way to get through the story and get a “happy” ending.

There is hours of extra footage that is mostly impossible to see until you get to the end because it forces you into certain choices. If I had to guess, it almost felt like some choices are missing or broken, just looping you back instead of giving you alternatives.

As an episode, it works and is cool. As a game, it’s buggy and broken.

I don't know, I got the 5 out of 5 ending. I guess that's the happy one.

It seems like some of the choices are dead ends, but some of them do seem to branch off in different directions. I'll have to watch it from the start and make different choices to see.

We got the 5 out of 5 ending on our first try through the film. I think that we made good choices our first time through the movie, because the Mrs and I saw like 90% of what the movie has to offer the first time through.

I went through it again and made different choices and when I did that I mostly hit dead ends and had to go back.

I see from internet charts that most of the decisions that lead to alternate stuff are about 3/4 into the film.

The more I think about it, the more I think I enjoyed this episode. It has a lot of Donnie Darko alternate-universe vibe and the technology is just seamless, there is no loading screens or pauses after you pick your choice.

I hope they do another one for sure, perhaps with just a little bit more variety in the outcome. In this one, you pretty much get a terrible ending (no matter what the “score” of your game ends up being) and that fits with Black Mirror, but the technology certainly allows for there to be endings that are radically different from each other.

I also like that there is an after-the credits scene with a major Easter egg.

I read online that the symbol from the choices menu is the same symbol from the episode ‘White Bear’ and Nozedive is the title of the social media episode. That’s on top of the really glaring references to Metal Head.

Nice article here on the major endings you can get. Spoilers ahoy, so be sure to watch it first and pick a few different choices before you read the article.

Spoiler warning

I was wondering if that modem sound actually contained any information. Pretty cool that it leads to a website with a playable version of NohzDyve.

I "played" this episode for a couple hours until I got the 5/5 ending. Prior to that I got several different endings. It was fun, just wish it was possible to get an actual good ending. Would've given the episode more of a sense of "Anything can happen."

Azzy 12-31-2018 10:39 PM

I "played" it through a few times and haven't done the research to know what kind of endings I've had. I just know that after two sit downs with it, probably about 2 1/2, 3 hours total, I'm bored with it.
The main character was too frenetic to be relatable and the shtick was a little contrived.
I'm glad they gave this idea a shot though, I have quite a bit more respect for them doing something new like this. I just wish it had been realized in a more entertaining way.

The series has always reeked of socialist rhetoric. Charlie Brooker is a great example of a millionaire socialist who has strong opinions on how you should live and where your money should go.

The limited episodes of the series I've watched made me not want to waste the time in viewing/consuming this particular episode in any other method than the one I default to (in the Windows 10 Netflix app), even though my main monitor IS that same SmartTV and I could click the Netflix button, or load the Netflix app on my multitude of consoles or iGadgets which presumably would 'allow' me to view this.

Seriously, just update the Fing app so it allows me to click inside the 'movie' and do the same stupid thing. Otherwise, I'm not interested in changing my habits on their whims.

It is a fictional monster from Alice in Wonderland and a poem from Lewis Carroll.

It is where the term Vorpal Sword comes from, which was a stable item in Dungeons & Dragons for decades.

As it turns out, Bandersnatch is also the name of a failed 80’s video game that was never released, much like the plot to this episode.
