Tomb of Doom - Weekly Update.
 

As stated last week Evil, and I are working on a text adventure for the Commodore 64. I know Evil has been chomping at the bit to work on the story, but my focus has been the engine. I have about 80% of the battle system coded (that part is easy and fun). This week I plan on working on the file system, and loading locations from of disk.

Look for a video next week demoing a battle, and moving from one location to the next.

That title screen alone oozes style.

I like the title/title screen. I certainly wouldn't mind a more graphical C64 era screen but the simplicity is cool too. I don't suppose there will be any music will there? That's one thing that I thought the C64 excelled at. To this day I still enjoy loading up some C64 music files for some background noise while I work.

Don't forget Scion. :D Those will be great for the 8th level of hell inhabited by succubus's area of the game.

I've never been able to draw, so unless someone else wants to do the art... you get programmer art :)

I would love to have music. I love the SID chip, but once again I'm not a musician :) I often listen to C64 music while I code.

Make any progress this week? I've been cleaning out my old office and I came across some programming manuals and the hard drive manuals for the 1541 drive.

I'm going to shuffle things around in my home office in a week or two to make room to set up my old C64. I know we will be using the emulator for most of this, but I want to see it up and running on a real C-64 at some point.

I've made some progress, but not as much as I would have liked. I started a new job this week so I've had less free time. Things should be getting back to normal around here in a week or two.

Yea, real life keeps me from doing the stuff I want to do. I've been working like 50+ hour work weeks for a while. I work about 4 of those in a row, then do a 40 hour week after that.

I'm going to take another whole week off in March and see how much I can get done on my novel. I'm going to work on the plotting and characters before then.

I don't normally do any plotting ahead of time, but I've got a cubic "Game of Thrones" level of characters to deal with in this story so I've got to start to lay out each of the families ahead of time.
