Valorant will launch for free worldwide on June 2nd

After being in a closed beta state for two months, Riot Games' hero shooter Valorant will make its official PC debut on June 2. The tactical FPS, which shares a lot of DNA with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, will be free-to-play in "a majority of the regions worldwide," including North America and Europe.

With Valorant officially dropping in early June, Riot confirmed that the game's closed beta will end on Thursday, May 28. This will give the studio the opportunity to reset player accounts and patch in new content. When the game hits on June 2, current Valorant players will have to start at the same place as those coming to the tactical FPS for the first time.

Shortly after Valorant's official launch, Riot will deliver a bunch of new content. This includes additional game modes, characters, maps, and more. In addition to this, Riot will deploy more servers to meet the game's demands. These new servers--located in Atlanta, Dallas, London, Madrid, and Warsaw--will help lower Valorant's latency so that the player experience is as smooth as possible.

Screw TenCent & the kernel level drivers this game installs on your system.

Hard pass.

I thought they got rid of that DRM/Anti-cheat system...

Too bad, I guess people will be heading to Overwatch still, or Apex, or now Crucible for their team based BR style games.

I don't get how people think they can get away with that kind of abuse in an arena where there is so much competition.

They seem to think that people are so scared of some cheaters ruining their hard earned ranks and scores in a game, that they'd rather subject themselves to the worst totalitarian anti-cheat system out there. They try to spin it as the "savest" online play. Yes, save, a word all too familiar nowadays. And all you got to do to be save is hand over all control of your machine to their company, owned by Chinese investors.

Can only hope that their assumption is wrong and people are not going for it.

I forgot Warzone. Good lord that game seems to have run through my work place and like wildfire and everyone is playing now.

The funniest thing is that it already has plenty cheaters anyway. Looks like hackers are always up for a good challenge. Somehow it's always the same old story.

When I was heavy into competitive shooters, part of the clan scene in organized play, rankings and such, of course we were always concerned about cheaters, but we made do with playing on dedicated servers. When a player was just too suspicious, a mod/admin would take a look from the player's cam perspective for a while. In clan matches, all players had to submit replays/recordings. That was good enough.

I miss the communities around dedicated servers. Was so fun and personal.

Valorant is mediocre at best. Its copy paste counterstrike gunplay/movement with hero abilities and mediocre maps.

I might have even given this a shot, game might not be all that bad, and I was playing plenty CS back when it was still a new mod for HL1. Haven't ever since, so why not take that opportunity to indulge some "nostalgia" with a new spin, sure.. But not for installing a rootkit on my PC, sorry, just can't afford that risk on a rig that's also my workstation.

It isn't about a "Fun Game" or not. The question is where you draw the line to allowing a Chinese company (Riot is owned by Tencent) to have the ability to see everything you are do on your PC and even completely take over your PC, whether the game is running or not. It is bad computer hygiene and, frankly, stupid.

Maybe if it were fucking amazballs and there was nothing else out there like it at all it is an easier pill to swallow but it isn't and there's plenty of similar games so why bend over for a Chinese company?

I can't wait till the hackers crack this DRM/Anti-cheat (which doesn't even stop cheating) and make every machine running this rootkit into into part of their child porn distribution network. Maybe that will teach people.
