The Division 2 Will Release on the Epic Store, Not Steam

PC Gamer has the story.

Quote:

Epic Games scored a big one today with the announcement of a partnership with Ubisoft that will see at least some of its future PC releases come to the Epic Games Store, and not to Steam. As reported by Polygon, the semi-exclusive deal will begin in March with the launch of The Division 2.

"We have no plans currently on releasing Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on Steam," a Ubisoft rep said. Ubisoft and Epic will "also partner on additional select titles [coming to the Epic Games Store] to be announced during the coming year."

"We entrust Epic to deliver a smooth journey for our fans, from preordering the game and enjoying our Beta to the launch of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on March 15," Ubisoft vice president of partnerships Chris Early said in the announcement. "Epic continues to disrupt the videogame [sic] industry, and their third party digital distribution model is the latest example, and something Ubisoft wants to support."

Let's find out if the game's not a big steaming pile of the same shit the first one is first before we bother about where we are going to buy it from.

I liked the first one until you hit the end-game / PVP content. Then it becomes a huge chore trying to play with gank squads that have nothing better to do.

I liked a good portion of the PVE content in the first game. Evil and I had some epic battles, playing as a two man team, against some tough quests.

That said, it was a buggy mess and the end game content was f'n awful.

Since you're forced to use Uplay anyway what does it matter which digital store front you buy it on? You're still going to have to use Ubisoft's platform. I do hope this trend continues, maybe it'll push ol Gabe to stop fleecing developers.

Just saw that. Incredible lack of historical context on that one. Unreal Engine is no joke, but Epic should be thanking their lucky stars every day due to what PUBG handed them.

They need to add first person with a FOV slider to these games and I'd buy wherever they were sold. Fucking hate third person shooters.

Will Valve have to start developing actual games again? Say it isn't so!

They apparently have three VR games in development, I am not holding my breath though.

Good, get some competition. Steam has turned into a pile of shit.

The first game got to be too repetitive and boring. Cool idea and setting, but execution was lacking.

Mozain 01-10-2019 11:16 AM

It did get better with the updates for sure, but yah my looter shooter role will likely go to Anthem.

The game was fine, but nothing special. Certainly not worth a second go around.

Based on comments it seems like a lot of people never checked out the updates and changes. It's been a much better game for the last couple of years. A bit long in the tooth now. But I'm still playing on occasion. I will likely play the The Division 2.

ElektroDragon 01-10-2019 05:03 PM

Does Epic store have achievements with a metascore or level?

Great so what you're saying is wait 2yrs for the game to get to a tolerable level.

Alright then.

I loved the first Division game. It was great up to the end game and the Darkzone bullshit. Then their post-launch content releases being mostly PvP focused sucked.

Then their "Shields" which unlock stuff for Division 2 are serious uber grinds for the most part and are ball breakers. I don't even know they are really worth it, particularly the Darkzone shields.

Still, this is big HUGE news and a serious win for the Epic Store. If Ubi starts leaning to putting their whole PC Catalog on Epic Store it could be significant. What will really make or break this is if they have been able to harvest everyone's Steam Friend's list and import it in to Uplay. Friends are critical to the Division and if you are crippled by only having people on your friends list you added via Uplay you are fuxxored.

That's one of the costs of trying to ship on your own launcher and one of the huge advantages to Steam: the friends list.

However once Uplay or another launcher entangles your Steam<->Uplay account and you give them permission to take all your friends and link them to their Uplay account when you join parties with them they can then capture your friend's Steam<->Uplay ID and, if they are smart, they will populate that Uplay ID across all the games.

You should probably work on your reading comprehension. Nothing in my statement justifies the state in which the game was released. I just implied that if people say something you paid for is "better" now. It might be worth checking out.

Wait, wait. So, are you telling me...I should wait for over 2 years for a game to get good?!!

PVP in a PVP zone!? Inconceivable!!

LostToys 01-11-2019 04:13 PM

The problem was is that it was a PVE zone that allowed for PVP. This made ganking a reality for most players and really turned people off the end-game initially. I know I stopped playing, and stopped caring, about the game after the Dark Zone became the place to be if you needed loots and it was full of assholes and cheaters.
