Halo: The Master Chief Collection coming to Steam

Halo: The Master Chief Collection - (PC)

Quote:

For the first time ever, The Master Chief’s story comes to PC. Featuring Halo: Reach along with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, the Halo 3: ODST Campaign and Halo 4, this is the definitive Halo experience.

Honoring the iconic hero and his epic journey, The Master Chief’s story is brought together with a total of 67 campaign missions plus more than 120 multiplayer maps (including the original Halo Combat Evolved maps) and Spartan Ops maps. Now built for PC with mouse and keyboard support and up to 4K UHD and HDR, this is the collection Halo fans have been waiting for!

It's an instant buy for me!

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is Coming to PC, Halo: Reach Being Added to the Collection

Today we’re extremely excited to share two big announcements that deliver on what are easily the most frequently requested asks from our community over the last few years: First, Halo: Reach is being added to Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC) and second, the entire collection is coming to PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam! This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for us to bring the Halo Universe and Master Chief’s story to a new audience and to offer PC gamers a chance to step into the franchise on the PC platform of their choice.

For the team at 343 Industries, the most important and critical element of this project is ensuring that Halo: The Master Chief Collection delivers a true “first class” experience on PC. We’re embarking on a journey with our community to build a PC experience that delivers on PC gamer expectations. The team is passionately committed to ensuring that all of the features, bells, and whistles expected in a modern PC title are included with MCC.

The Master Chief’s arrival on PC will happen in stages with each title releasing one by one over time -– giving the development teams the ability to ensure each one is right, while giving players a chance to jump in right away, rather than having to wait for the entire suite of games to be completed. Our current plan is for this journey to begin with the launch of Halo: Reach – the fictional beginnings of Master Chief’s saga – with the rest of the titles following in chronological order thereafter. Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4 will each be available for individual purchase within MCC as they become available. And each game will evolve and grow over time with community input.

Along with “bring Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PC!”, the next loudest refrain from Halo fans has been to “add Halo: Reach to Halo: The Master Chief Collection!” and we’re excited to make good on both requests later this year. Halo: Reach in Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One looks better than ever in stunning 4K/HDR on compatible hardware and plays better than ever at a silky smooth 60FPS.

On Xbox One specifically, Halo: Reach’s multiplayer content (which includes Forge and the Theater) will be automatically included for everyone who owns Halo: The Master Chief Collection while Halo: Reach’s Campaign and Firefight experiences will be offered together as a premium digital add-on. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have access to the entirety of Halo: Reach within MCC as part of their subscription. Halo: Reach will look and play just as great when it lands on the Microsoft Store and Steam with Campaign, Multiplayer, and Firefight available for purchase as the first step in this PC journey.

We know many of you will have questions, so stay tuned to Halo Waypoint – we’ll have plenty more to say, share, and show on the road to release. The team at 343 Industries, along with our partners at Splash Damage and Ruffian, are already hard at work and we can’t wait to bring the community along on this journey.

On behalf of the entire 343 Industries team, thank you to everyone who’s continued to play and support Halo and Halo: The Master Chief Collection and for not giving up on the dream of one day enjoying these great experiences on a PC.

PC was being teased for sure, being on STEAM of all places was out of left field. Let's dethrone PUBG on the stats list and aim for DOTA. =D

I bought an Xbox, with keyboard adapter, to play Halo 1 all those years ago. The only one left to play is Halo 5 and that's not included :(

The only Halo that I wouldn't want to play again is 5!

I will buy this (hopefully get it for free since I own the MCC on Xbox) and play every single one of these campaigns on PC with M/KB, something I've always wanted to do.

I bought Halo 2 physically for PC back in the day but mostly played multiplayer. This will be great to have the whole collection and presumably with modern resolutions and graphical options.

This is awesome. I haven't played a Halo game since the first one was on PC around 2003.

Halo 2 was on PC around 2007, but it required Windows Vista (DirectX 10 requirement, I think) when most were still using XP.

Drake_NS 03-13-2019 06:11 AM

Pretty cool! Never played ODST, and never finished Halo 4. Looks like a good opportunity to rectify that.
Huh...just checked, and yup, I still have "Rock Anthem for Saving the World" in my phone's ringtones folder.

Do you guys know if there will be cross play with the XBOX One versions for coop and/or multiplayer?

While I don't have any hard conformation, I'd say yes it will allow for cross platform play. MS has been doing a lot of that lately.

This is just weird. Microsoft can't do anything unless it's half assed. Releasing one title at a time? Making current owners pay to get Reach? They are also making PC owners PAY FOR EACH TITLE separate.

It's like they are allergic to money over there.

Meusli 03-13-2019 08:46 AM

I can't believe they are going to Steam with this, I would expect the MS store for sure. Well it's on my wish list and I can't wait.

Roommate reminded me that ODST was not free if you didn't qualify for their "thank you for sticking it out with us during launch" program so I guess it's not surprising that Reach isn't free. Hopefully it'l only be $5 like ODST is

brandonjclark 03-13-2019 10:15 AM

Wait, wtf?

Can I buy this in a package deal or what?

wildcard 03-13-2019 11:23 AM

Sounds more like they are letting people skip the halos they don't like if you are buying it on pc, but each game will run under the "MCC" like making each halo a dlc for the MCC

ministryofwrath 03-13-2019 12:18 PM

Plan to play these with my fiancee, though I'm worried they might be too dated for her to enjoy.

I don't think I even finished halo 4, so that'll be interesting

Terran 03-13-2019 01:29 PM

The Halo series started with a musical bang (original), proceeded to drive consoles online successfully for the first time ever (Halo 2) and then progressively got shittier and shittier until I lost interest years ago.

Not interested. The magic of the first and second one are gone now. They were great for their time, and that time is past. Over, done, out.

alienchild 03-13-2019 10:58 PM

I played through all the campaigns for each of the games in MCC on Xbox One last year, having only played the original Halo 1 & 2 back in the days. In my opinion the games get progressively better for each iteration - except for the story, which is convoluted garbage. Halo 4 for me is an absolute masterpiece. I recently got Reach (it was not included in MCC at the time) and was planning on playing it on backwards comp, but haven't gotten around to yet.

This PC launch is awesome and even though I just finished them I will still want to give it a second go, this time with a GTX 1080Ti, mouse and keyboard. It will be glorious!

excalibur1814 03-14-2019 02:01 AM

Some of the books are quite good.

Mad Max RW 03-14-2019 02:31 AM

A real FOV slider will make a big difference. The only Halo game I played was the heinous PC port by Gearbox.

The 'requirement' was a purely artificial limitation put there by Microsoft to drive adoption of Vista, and we know how that went. The port uses DirectX 9 exclusively, which is why people were running it on XP not long after release.

I wonder if the strategy to sell each game separately could backfire for Microsoft. Obviously they believe it will make them more money in the long run, but it allows people to just buy the games they want and skip the bad fanfiction they call Halo 4. Can't do that on Xbone, PC wins again!
