InXile Launches Torment Kickstarter
Is Kickstarter fatigue beginning to kick in? Perhaps not, as InXile launched their Torment Kickstarter today and have already raised over 1 million dollars. |
Good for them. I understand why they want to do this now, but until I see wasteland 2 I don't trust him.
He, along with Fegus Urquhart, ran Interplay into the ground and signed off on releasing known shitty (and even saying so publicly) games like Decent to Undermountain and refused to fix it. Besides, I'll be able to get it on a Steam Sale for $10 a month after it releases where as I'd have to contribute $20 here and they may or may not make it and I will have lost my money. |
Nice to see them hit the goal the first day.

Well the Pre Alpha is so goood... the got funded in 6 hours! now we need stretch goals LOL |
Like there was even a doubt... I just hope it measures up to PST. Even if it half does it will be better then most of the shit that has been released in the last 10 years. CAN'T WAIT!!!

backed, just like the Wasteland 2 project..
i like what Brian Fargo is doing.. even with the new Bards Tale game.. I was laughing hard within the first 10 minutes.. thats good writing.. and if they dont turn out that good? The wasteland 2 first look does seem to say otherwise, but I could and probably would have spent the money on something completely stupid.. so i am glad their jobs are secured for at least a year and 9 months.. |

Its official the faster ever in all Kickstarter! |
Funded in 6 hours.
Madness. inXile better deliver on both Wasteland 2 and Torment or they could screw the pooch for everyone on Kickstarter. |
Yep, couldn't pass it up at $20. Big sucker for THEMATIC DIVERSITY here.

There's going to be a kickstarter backlash at some point. Who will be the first to screw the pooch I wonder? |
There have been a few failed Kickstarters but they weren't high profile enough to get much attention. I know there was one whose backers were talking about suing the creator because she basically took the money and ran.
|
If this works InXile would be the first studio to use Kickstarter as the financial engine that runs a studio the same way it would run under the ideal traditional model (the half team thing Fargo talked about where people are always in pre-prod for their next project).
Good luck to them, I hope they don't fuck it up. |
I'm personally not going to back it this time, but I'll likely buy the end product.
I'm a huge Kickstarter fan. You've just got to be cautious and know what you're getting into. I've backed 12 projects so far with a lot of successful results. Zombicide, Spine, and FTL are probably the best of the released so far. Some I'm still waiting on, like Ogre. Others didn't turn out so hot, but oh well. (Disaster Looms!, Smarter Stand) Code Hero I backed on their website rather than Kickstarter, and that's been an absolute mess. There's been talk of lawsuits there as well, but I think they can still pull it off and I hope they do. There was an update just yesterday. Sometimes the best part is just getting the behind-the-scenes look. |
Backed it for $20. Never played Torment but I have heard good things. I am more into the Numenera Part of it. Sounds like a cool setting for an RPG.

Going to throw some money at this, we'll see where it ends up :)

Funnily I was doubting that this would take off as quickly like recent big name projects.
But then I saw everything they've prepared for this and chucked in my $120. I'm nuts. |
