In an interview with Games Industry, Silicon Knights' Denis Dyack has revealed that the company is working on a sequel to one of their "most requested" IP's.
Interestingly, he refers to last generation and "this gen" because Silicon Knights has already moved on to new consoles. Dyack's not ready to talk about the next-gen project, but given his comments on Eternal Darkness recently, we have a strong suspicion that Silicon Knights is actually working on the fan favorite.
"We're really excited and we're working on our next generation stuff. We're working on an IP that's our most requested and we're really excited about that."
This would be amazing. Easily one of the most finely crafted games of all time.
It still blows my mind to see the games they have made since then, I just don't understand where all that talent and passion went. I did four full playthroughs of this game back in the day, I literally played until I had done everything, and I often tell myself that I need to go back to it. I'd give anything for this sequel to be real, but only if it lives up to the first game.
I'd love to see a new Eternal Darkess, although it's dangerous - the prequel could easily smash any successor.
Ahhh, it would be ABOUT TIME. Im sure some will gripe about a few of the mechanics here and there with the original, but Eternal Darkness was a stellar game. Interesting from start to finish. Loved the story-line and suspense.
They'd better just not botch it with junk. Keep a great story-line, keep the suspense, and character development, and don't water it down with too much constant action. Don't think better graphics is a substitute for substance.

If I remember correctly, Eternal Darkness was originally being developed as an N64 title. A prime example of how fantastic story, gameplay, and design can trump what is honestly fairly poor visuals (for a Cube title, at least), making perhaps one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences for that system.
Sequel? Eternal Darkness can't have a sequel, the story was self contained.
Spritual sequel would be plenty - plenty of lovecraftian stories and themes to play with. Although technically, you didn't beat the game unless you beat the game 3 times - choosing a different relic at the beginning on each playthrough, suggesting that the story continues in parallel dimensions, and only then just to keep things in harmony.
Doesn't seem like it'd take much to upset that balance for a sequel story...
