GameSpot dug up a job listing for Sony Santa Monica on Gamasutra that would lead one to believe the studio best known for the God of War series is working on a new shooter.
The outfit behind the God of War series may be starting up a new franchise in the near future. Sony's Santa Monica studio has posted a job listing for a senior combat designer to work on an unannounced new intellectual property.
The listing doesn't detail what the new IP will be, but details can be inferred from some of the requirements and duties for candidates. The studio is looking for developers who have experience with first- or third-person shooters, as well as those who have designed vehicle combat in a game before. The designer's duties will also involve seeing boss designs through from concept to execution, and a variety of tuning functions, including "magic distribution."
I was never all that impressed by God of War. It was fine at what it was, but the story was bad, and the gameplay stayed exactly the same for all of the sequels, way past the point at which it went stale.
I thought the GoW series was pretty cool, well executed. Your right the story wasn't revolutionary and the battle was very similar the way through (but then again you can say all the CoD's play very similar)
Definitely interested as to what they come up with.
