Whichever of these kickstarter games finish first is going to be examined with a fine-toothed comb. If they prove to be A) Poor or, even worse, B) lacking in promised features it will be difficult for future titles to get funded.

As for Grim Dawn, it looks like a decent little Diablo / WoW-clone. I do ponder why they say it is pre-Alpha, when the footage is of a fully functional game.

Hmm...

I hope none of these kickstarters are for nearly finished products looking to cash in before sales.

The thing that is going to interest me is the development time. With that amount of money they can fund the game for some time. But with this whole kickstart thingy being so now in the moment, i wonder how many people understand the true development time that a project like this will take.

That's why I felt comfortable supporting Wasteland 2. Everyone involved with that project is an industry veteran, and some of them are working for free. They also had a ton of pre-production work already finished before they even began their Kickstarter campaign.

Shadowrun was the game I remember requiring enough 6 sided dice to fill a goldfish bowl. Grats to them!

The GiTP Kickstarter features regular updates on production progress. Not as many as I like, but since I love his work I always find myself wanting more from Rich Burlew. One thing I hope the Kickstarter phenomenon indicates is better transparency by the industry on what games will actually include.

Wasteland 2 is set to release October 2013. That was plastered all over the kickstarter page.

Also Boot Hill Heroes is another kickstarter I helped with. Earthbound Style wild west RPG? Sure, why not.
