Caught Evil Dead last night. It does the original justice, I think. Some scenes are very cringe-worthy.

Wonder what they'll do with the franchise - apparently want to tie the original in with the new. Groovy.

In an awkward, cheesy "That belongs in a B movie" way or from the grossout/gore side of things?

Gore . . . It's Evil Dead, so cheese is expected but the effects are brutal. Without giving too much away, one scene involves an electric knife and an arm. Or extreme close-ups of pulling hyperdermic needles out of your eye.

Practical too rather than filled out with CG.

EVIL DEAD was good fun... not perfect but we enjoyed it. Definitely gory for the fun of being gory. Which is fun

This is pretty much the best place for it since the last WWZ thread is a ways off the front, but an anonymous source has confirmed that appeasement to government censors is why the zombie outbreak didn't start in China in the upcoming movie. I wonder how many other changes ended up being made to appease censors (not to mention the wholesale butchering of the entire concept of the book...)

I enjoyed the Evil Dead remake. It wasn't amazing, but it was enjoyable and for the most part fans of the original cant cry to much. The gore was pretty good, haven't cringed like that in a good while.

Finally horror is back in horror ^_^
Choose your government: the majority ruling the minority, the minority ruling the majority, or everyone ruling themselves long as they do not initiate force, fraud, or theft against one another.

Evil Dead remake was pretty good. Again, it's a re/whatever to a cult b-movie that never takes itself too seriously. It's got fucking tree rape after all. Did the series justice while also keeping it as its own film. Adequate gore and people getting the shit beat out of them.

The only thing that felt 'off' for me was that it didn't feel truly unrelenting. I do mean it picks up just as much as the older ones, but the original deadites were never really put down. For example even after they melted, massive demon hands spew forth. Shit like that.

Glad it made more than any other ED film yet and even more that it is #1 this weekend. They were talking at WonderCon that the 'idea' is that they're both working on sequels (new Evil Dead and Army of Darkness 2, which they are calling it as of now) which would lead into a seventh and final 7th film crossing over both universes. Now I'm extremely skeptical of such a thing actually happening, though if it does, I'll be going opening night.

I saw Oz and I loved it until about half-way through when I knew the rest of the plot. Spoilers:
What bugged me is that there really wasn't a love connection between the Wizard and Theodora (if that was her name). That section was so fast that it made her unraveling over it seem stupid and empty. Since the plot revolves around this relationship, it was a real disappointment. He should have ACTUALLY jilted her instead of her inventing a fantasy relationship in her head. Plus, he isn't even into Glenda romantically before she just decides to believe her sister and become a murdering wicked witch. . . wtf!? I just spent the rest of the movie thinking, "Shut up Meg!"
