'Sopranos' Prequel Movie in the Works at New Line

The Hollywood Reporter has word that a Sopranos prequel movie is in the works.

Quote:
David Chase will be returning to the world of the Sopranos for a feature prequel.

New Line has purchased the screenplay The Many Saints of Newark, which Chase co-wrote with Sopranos writer Lawrence Konner.

The story is in the era of the Newark riots in the '60s, when African-Americans and Italians of New Jersey were at each other's throats, and among the gangsters of each group, it became lethal.

While other plot details are currently sleeping with the fishes, some fan favorite Sopranos characters will be seen in the film. A search for a director is under way.

Chase will serve as producer via his Chase Films banner. Chase Films' Nicole Lambert will serve as an exec producer.

I'm actually in the middle of a re-watch of the series now. I initially thought this sounded bad, but the 60's... I think that's Johnny Boy and Junior Soprano territory. Sounds pretty good, those flashback scenes were always fun to watch.

Hopefully, it'll have a very satisfying ending, like the series.

Instead of making people think their DVRs broke or the cable went out, maybe they'll make it look like the film real breaks and call it good.

We'll probably see his dad and Junior's hijinx. Maybe, we'll see young Tony and some other characters before they went to prison too.
