The graphics are great, but the gameplay seems like way way way too much of a throwback to a style of game no one plays any more.

Looks good to me. When I was younger, I enjoyed the feeling of getting into a zone in these games and basically becoming a juggernaut, mowing down everyone in your path. But I'm not sure I have the reflexes for that anymore.

Will definitely get this on launch, and I've signed up for the beta. Many of my friends will do the same as we were massive Quakers back in the day. I'm sure it will have a playerbase, not sure how well it will do in bringing in new players though.

Except for the shit loads of people who still play those kinds of games.

Barring a few annoyances I think it looks great. If the price is right, there's enough good reviews from friends, dedicated server support, and Bethesda doesn't gut it for DLC I'm all in.

I like it, but those character one-liners are going to get old quick, and they don't really fit the tone of the game/IP. Hopefully they have 100+ of them per character, or they should be cut immediately. Either way, they're prob. going to be annoying. I suppose we'll be able to turn them off. Yeah, it's a nit-picky thing, but I don't understand how producers don't see these kind of things early ("this is stupid") and cut it sooner than later to save time and budget.

The game is going to be free to play:

Hoping that this doesn't mean the the gore gets cut from the game later on. boring kill shots ruined Quake Live for me.

I signed up for the beta too. And although I doubt that I will win many matches the quake style of gameplay is what I enjoy the most. From what I have seen so far it looks like fun.

Although you can purchase it and gain access to all the champions up front. Wonder how many of the levels will be repeats. Hope to see a few from Quake 1 and 2.

If CS still has a market, so does Quake.
I loved it back in the day although I loved Unreal2k more. I'll probably end up playing that when I need a fix rather than this. It's too simple and too fast for frags to feel like they matter. From the videos I've watched too many shots seem to be because of luck, and screw that.

There's a newer trailer out (I believe the Anarki one) where ZeRo4 is the player recording the gameplay. Check it out, gives a much better sense of the game when someone solid is playing. It's definitely Quake, and nothing happens randomly.

As long as there's a mode where hero shit is disabled.

Here it is:

It does look fun but these heroes don't fit in my view. The voices, the looks, everything. In my opinion, if you're going to have Quake heroes, they all need to be completely over the top roid monsters.

Looks good to me and was interesting to see the changes to the Campgrounds map from Q3 and its not just a direct map port... unless its a port of a mod itself?
Like others some of the taunts would get old fast but presumably you'll be able to turn them off.. you don't want important in game sounds you'd react to that are covered up by taunts etc.
