Sounds like a great and varied selection (http://genesismini.sega.com/). Unfortunately, I was a Nintendo person (and the Amiga was similar to the Mega Drive), so the nostalgia is kinda lost on me.

P.S.: Here is a comparison of the Japanese/Western titles: https://gematsu.com/2019/05/sega-gen...o-30-announced

I hated Ghosts and Goblins. So many quarters. So many.

Then Ghouls and Ghosts was out on consoles I was like "Finally, I can play to my hearts content!" So many busted controllers. So many.

The game list looks great. I absolutely love the Genesis/Mega Drive! It has been the console I've played most over the last four months. I don't think a month has gone by where I haven't played the Genesis, and I bought it day one.

I'm off to play some Outrun!

Man, could be like having the Sega Channel all over again. I am surprised by how many people do not remember that when I talk about it. It was a major part of my childhood.

Most likely will pre-order this one.

I grew up in the middle of no where, so I only ever read about it in magazines.

Add one of the Road Rashes, forgot which one of the....3? was the best, and you basically have the "must rent" list from blockbuster at the time on this thing.

Not that the Genesis catalog was very large compared to the absolutely huge SNES catalog however....

700 games isn't a small catalog, a good number of the 1700 Snes titles were shit shovelware to begin with.

Hmm, that's true, going back looking at my emu collection of them. At the time though, it felt more like 200 compared to 600.

They were largely similar in size state-side though. Like 700+ NA Genesis games compared to 700+ NA SNES games. SNES had 969 exclusive to Japan games out of the 1759 total released for the system. US had only 121 exclusives lol. Going off the numbers on Wikipedia.

If I remember my local Arizona blockbuster at the time of say... 1994: Genesis had about 6 5'x3' 1 sided shelves in a corner and SNES had I think 2 rows of those long row tape shelves near the entrance. Something like that anyway!

These devices are fun from a nostalgia stand point but considering I've had emu collections of both nearly perfectly playable since the late 90s, it doesn't move my wallet much.

I would love, love, LOVE to see Star Control 1 and Master of Monsters on that list.

Those two games, along with Shining Force and Phantasy Star series, and a few of the console standbys (like the aforementioned Ghouls and Ghosts) kept me firmly in Sega's camp throughout most of that era.

It is so easy to set up emulators on a multitude of different hardware devices i just dont get the appeal of these mini consoles.

Phantasy Star 4 is still a great RPG, it never got the credit it deserved.
