Some? I'd say that was most Android devices then, because I have yet to see one that you could move Apps to the SD card anymore without rooting and/or some advanced tweaking. You used to be able to on any device, but Google did away with that. Now you can only move apps to primary (internal storage), and only if that storage is not emulated. SD cards are almost always secondary external storage, and can only be used for data (music, movies, books, etc). It's now rare to find a device (if you can find one at all) that you can move apps to the SD card on out-of-the-box (you can't even do it on the ultra-popular S3).

This happened, from what I understand, because Google switched from UMS to MTP for storage. I hear reasons for that of being due to "too many bugs with UMS", and also that Google is trying to phase out external memory (their latest Nexus devices don't even have an SD card slot any more) and go the Apple route of all internal memory because it is less confusing for end users.

But my theory is it's because manufacturers were worried that people were buying the cheapest phones because they could use SD cards, and they wanted to push their more expensive phones with more memory.

Will these gaming devices mount the external SD correctly as non-emulated primary external storage so that apps can be moved to it (and is that even possible)? And, if so, will they provide a more user-friendly way of doing it, other than having to go into Settings or download some 3rd party app? That is yet to be seen.

I'm more interested in how these companies plan to make money. Seems like each of them plans to control an app store, so is the console really open at all? Or are they planning to make money just selling hardware, which would be ideal.

Is there really such a huge unmet market demand for something like this that nVidia felt compelled to join the fray? Honestly, I much prefer my gaming on the bigger screens like my TV or monitor. The only time I'd be interested in something like this is when I'm sitting while my wife shops, or on a bus/train. My phone is sufficient for that. And I'm certainly not going to carry around a bulky piece of tech like this just for such moments. Help me out here.

Unlike the DS you can't exactly stow this in a pocket and walk.

I can't even keep track anymore. We're up to 12 major gaming platforms, 5 of which are all on the same OS with varying inputs, and 2 out of 3 platforms are mobile. It's getting ridiculous.

If this can start the revolution to a linux based gaming future (open future) then so be it. MS can go fck a DODO. They have screwed us PC gamers for too long promoting the xbox platform over everything else inc PC. If they had any shred of decency they would have xbox and Pc exclusives over the PS to drive it into the ground. Just wait MS just wait :P

Agree totally, handheld is out of control and I don't consider android or apple gaming. Gaming for soft core and I have always been.....

HARD CORE, HARDOCP, HARD ROCK, you get the picture.

The PS is ALREADY in the ground. PS3 is the last Sony console.

This whole scene is depressing as shit right now. Its all fucked up! Andriod is causing nothing but a whole bunch of guys who think they might have some chops to make a game. Have you looked on play store lately? Its all shit. Bad thing is Andriod and IOS might run Sony out of the console market before people realize andriod games are the modern day snake on a nokia.

As soon as a Tizen phone comes out im getting one. Fuck google, and fuck andriod in its metallic data mining asshole.

And these consoles are anything but major...Unless you call the Ngage, Neo Geo pocket, Bitcorp Game mate and Game.com major consoles.

The only mobile gaming solution of any interest for all of us should the the Surface Pro. It's a slightly more portable laptop. That's all we need and not some 360 controller glued to a GBA screen at an non-viewable angle, damnit!

This can also wireless display your Android games to your TV, so you don't need to use the small screen, it was confirmed at CES.

It's just too bad the only unified achievement system for Android is the proprietary Amazon GamerCircle.

And WTF is a "Johan laugh"? I know Johan, but I don't get it.

I used to be a PC only gamer for decades. When I try to go back now to mouse and keyboard, I find them clunky and overrated. And yes I have a Logitech G9, etc. etc. Keyboard/mouse is good for simulation/strategy and FPS. THAT' S IT. For any other kind of game genre, its just crap.

But of course YOU will hate this new device just because I've decided it's good.

Logitech... Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa

I don't hate it I simply think the concept is overrated and lacks real innovation. They could have done this much better but nothing in concrete yet so we shall see. Go out for a walk buddy you seem irritable today.

What about MMORPG's, or simply RPG's for that matter? And there are a lot of sub-genres inside that strategy umbrella as well.
