Playerunknown's Battlegrounds Sales Hit 10 Million

GameSpot has the story.

Quote:
Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is a confirmed, breakaway hit, and the shooter continues to pick up steam. It has now hit a major milestone, surpassing 10 million copies sold on PC. Today's announcement suggests game sales are really speeding up; at Gamescom in August, its creator Brendan Greene revealed the game had sold 8 million copies at that point.

PUBG has hit another milestone, too. On August 27, for the first time, it became the biggest game on Steam in terms of concurrent players, temporarily surpassing Dota 2. PUBG is now far outpacing Dota 2--today, its peak player count was over 962,000, compared with 723,000 for Dota 2. That still isn't an all-time record, as Dota 2 has topped 1 million before, but PUBG may get there yet.

Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is still in Early Access, and its success is likely to just keep growing. Developer Bluehole intends to release an Xbox One version in "late 2017," with Microsoft as its publisher. Despite the Microsoft announcement, developer Bluehole has suggested it may come to other consoles too (although it's not talking specifics at this time).

I applaud (and envy, of course) them for their achievements, and just to be clear: I think the game looks totally fun in narrated (or rather, screamed) "Let's play" videos. Kudos to the developers for perfecting their mod! However, I can't help but feel a little sad at the thought that so many gamers are secretly dreaming of being, well... assholes. There's no story, no character development, no bomb to disarm in PUBG. Just killing for fun. It's not even sport, in my opinion, because of the random nature of the drops and added (purchaseable) items.

Also, I suck at competitive shooters, but that's totally beside the point, right?

So, everyone refers to it as the sound I make when I belch with a mouthful of food?

That's because only the best footage of their gameplay makes it to the videos. I bought this game for $20 about a month ago because I kept hearing so much praise for the game. Even the videos I watched made me decide that it would be worth the $20.

I was wrong. It's not much fun for me. You can spend 20+ minutes running across the map without ever seeing anyone, then, out of nowhere you get sniped. There's more reasons, but no one will read this anyways.

Maybe it's because I'm old? Either way, good for the devs on their 10 million sales. I wish I were inventive and talented enough to do what they've done. Bravo!

Very few are older gamers than me , and I love it. Get discord and do some duo or squad play.
Alternatively try SP and work really hard to survive. Get good loot , jump in a car and get to what is your best guessed , final circle. Camp in a house and try to get to the top ten .
One day you might even get the number one spot and be a Chicken Dinner Winner !

This game is fun , exciting and also , iI accept , extremely frustrating.

!0 million and counting for a pre release game tells the story.

It IS great fun !!

I've played a few rounds and don't really get it. Run in desolation for 10 minutes then get sniped pretty much sums up the experience.

Yeah, I agree. I'm old AF. Just race to get some armor and a good AR and then hop on a vehicle and race to where you think the circle of death will finally end up. You'll have to fight a person or two for immediate supremacy of the center of the circle, but if you win, you'll be able to set up camp and attack others as they are herded your way by the wall o' death.

Great game. I'd be playing it a lot more if I wasn't in the throes of a PoE addiction that might as well be heroin.

Put me in the same group with people who do not like this game. Some games are uber short because you just have bad luck, some game are super long and boring because you never really see anyone, and some games are super fun because of the cat-and-mouse gameplay. But, for the most part, the game is just boring because you do the same thing each and every time: find a place to parachute to, find loot, run/drive to a new location, try to find new loot, don't die, ???, Chicken Dinner.

The lack of consistency in terms of how much fun I have per attempt is what keeps me from going back to PUBG. Maybe I will go back a few patches later, such as when they allow for vaulting over walls and more servers are first person only.

Put me also in the "Old-as-fuck gamer who likes PUBG". Haters can hate; but I don't give two-shits about that.

After reading so many of you old farts like this game, I went to check out the recent reviews on Steam. It seems the game is quite unoptimized.

Oh, yeah, that's much better.

This is a South Korean developed game. I didn't know that. It looks good but im just too soft to play these types of games. Day Z/Rust/King Of The Hill leave me feeling uneasy every time. Its cool sometimes, but not most times.
