Warhammer: Vermintide 2 - "We will NOT be selling loot boxes" says Fatshark, Trailer

Eurogamer has the story.

Quote:
Swedish developer Fatshark has revealed the first gameplay footage for sequel Warhammer: Vermintide 2, confirming Chaos as the new faction though Skaven will return as well.

But perhaps more pertinently Fatshark declared Vermintide 2 will "NOT", capital letters, have loot boxes. "Loot comes from gameplay, not your wallet," Fatshark poster Hedge said on Reddit.

All five heroes from Vermintide 1 will return but this time be able to specialise in one of three 'hero classes'. Think of them as subclasses. Bardin the Dwarf, for example, can be played as a slayer, but while doing so will not be able to use shields.

There will be new weapons and in the gameplay footage the Waywatcher demonstrates one of them, a spear, and to bloody, squelchy effect.

In addition, the loot system is overhauled, there's a new UI, there are new locations and enemies, obviously, and there is mod and dedicated server support.

Doesn't really look all that fun to me, but I kind of want to buy it just to support the devs. Any developer that listens to what consumers want/don't want (in this case, the exclusion of Loot Boxes) has my respect. Hell, that's one of the reasons I bought The Witcher 3 on release.

Fuck EA. Fuck Ubisoft. Fuck WB Games. (They're publishers, I know)

It's sad that a game that a game can make headlines these days because it doesn't have loot crates and microtransactions. But I suppose in a world where Activision just patented rigging their match-making system to get players to buy in-game items, honest games are the exception.

I don't know how they are making a sequel, the first game was absolute trash. I played it for a few hours, decent production values but the whole game felt like a cross between a really shitty Destiny raid experience meets Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

No. Just EA. The rest really don't deserve your scorn, they are just trying to copy head douchebag EA, it's a serious case of executive "me too" mentality inspired by EA's meteoric stock price rise. But neither are nearly as bad as EA. Not nearly. They don't cancel awesome games just because they are not multiplayer and microtransaction-heavy enough. Else AC Origins and Shadow of War would already have been canceled.

Not my taste in gaming but I respect them for not being anti-consumer.

I'm playing the new WWE 2k18 game and the loot boxes are just moves/cosmetics that were in all the previous games right away. So it feels like they locked 75% of the items you normally had access to right away and threw them in a loot box system as a form of progression. You can only buy the boxes with in-game currency this year but the worry is next year they will add the option to spend real money...like this year they are just testing it out on the player base. I get concerned when they lock moves/costumes behind a loot box system like this that were available for free and right away in previous games. Not to mention the randomness of the box chance. If you want a certain move you have to get it in a box. You can't just buy it.

I think, removing loot boxes is a good sign. I suppose that games should be produced with full-content. All "extra features" should be really "extra", but not the main content of game blocked for the player until he pays...

Wow, this is nasty. But maybe Activision only patented this concept to make sure no company would ever be allowed to implement it in any game, ever? ... Yeah, right.

As for "Vermintide": Did the first game sell loot boxes? If not, then this is simply a jab at EA and not news. Can't say I'm too fond of this sort of marketing.

I dunno, Activision and by extension Blizzard, and Take Two are just as bad as EA. Ubisoft also tends to do lots of DLC. WB I'm ok with, though stuff like extra fighters in a MK or Injustice game aren't crucial to the base title, same with what they did with the Shadow of Mordor stuff, sure they offer the chance to buy items but you aren't forced to at all and it doesn't negatively affect the game if you don't spend a single extra dime.
