METAL JESUS ROCKS!: That Thick Smell of Asphalt

So apparently, North Korea got its schoolyard ego bruised up pretty good here lately and is now threatening to throw a nuclear temper tantrum on the Eurasian playground. Probably just some juvenile saber rattling, sure. But in the event that some serious bidness do go down, I've got my leather jacket and riding goggles at the ready. Because if 80s movies and videogames have taught me anything, it's that when it comes to living in a nuclear wasteland, he with the baddest set of wheels is king. Of course for my bus money, you can't beat a good iron horse for getting around the barren landscape as nothing tells radioactive mutants to keep their distance like the roar of a 1200cc panhead.

Speaking of post-apocalyptic scenarios, let's talk about Full Throttle. Probably moreso than any other media experience ever produced, this LucasArts adventure from 1995 gave players the opportunity to live out their Neo-Arizona biker gang fantasies. A brilliant combination of excellent art direction, superb voice acting, killer rock soundtrack, and more testosterone-laced content than Ted Nugent having sex in Sturgis during bike week, it immediately became one of the all-time PC classics.

Being the exponential homage to all things metal that Full Throttle is, you knew it was just a matter of time before our local lord of all things rock and retro, the Metal Jesus, gave us his take on this love letter to all things manly. But does the game really hold up after 17 years? Or is it just another case of that crusty biker chick at the end of the bar looking pretty good at closing time just because you've got your nostalgia goggles on? Find out by watching this week's episode of METAL JESUS ROCKS!:

Posting videos on Evil Avatar about Full Throttle is sooooo 2010.

One of the most interesting video's you have had..... thanks. It was a pleasure looking back at that game. I didn't buy it but I remember it on the shelves.

The love for this game & nostalgia, is like no other. Fans really can't believe why a sequel hasn't been made yet!

A true classic. Played through it at least five times over the years.

I'm ready for another go. Thanks MJ!

Thanks, man! I love the way that great games like FT mean so much to so many people that there are literally 10s if not hundreds of video tributes to it. And I'm certainly happy to counted amongst that group.

I'm working on another video that I hope to be able to share here soon. It won't have a killer soundtrack, but I think it will be pretty fun given the nostalgia factor it has on tap.

So much great stuff in this little hobby of ours that we have been so fortunate to grow up during the development of. Will we even recognize what videogames have become when we, the first-genners, are in our retirement years? The mind boggles to imagine where the technology will have lead the industry in 20-30 years.

I also like how you touched on the game being short. I think that's a chronic problem with all of Tim Shafer's works but that could be because they are so awesome we never want them to end.

"Emmet drops a load
Green crap coats the road like snow
Just take a little"

For years, "just take a little" has been an inside joke/catch phrase with me and a select few friends. It's right up there with, "Want some rye?"

I still remember the song that goes:

The population is greatly decreased
And now the odds are greatly increased
That I may one day get a chance to kiss your lips
I thank the lord each day for the apocalypse.

After 17 years, I can't get it out of my head. Great game.

You should really watch the last 2 minutes of the video Metal Jesus embedded near the top of this thread.
