I'm looking forward to trying it. I think it will be solid game. I'll always play anything id puts out because of their pedigree

Well, I was on the fence, but after this speech I am buying the game.

I have yet to play an FPS better than Doom 3.

For a while there, I thought all he cared about anymore is rockets. Kind of like Garriott only caring about space. But I was wrong.

By the way, Masters of Doom is a great read.

And he's wrong... PS3 supports keyboards just fine.

For some reason I just listened to whole thing. And from what he says, its very clear that the 360 version installed to hard drive will be even better than the PC version, and the PS3 version will be the worst.

This guy is responsible for the state of video games today. If it wasn't for the great Carmack we'd still be playing side scrollers only..

Not true. He's certainly a trailblazer, but I doubt the industry wouldn't move forward without him. We'd simply have been playing someone else's 3D games awhile later than we did.

In one word: Genius. I have always admired Id and enjoyed their games. Its obvious he is passionate and can translate that to significant contributions to gaming.

Remember that one time he bought a Ferrari with all that money he made from us?

Good times.

In retrospect, I do miss games like Quake. I used to love FPS games, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc but then over time it's all shifted to more modern squad based realism shooters like CoD. I got off the FPS train when Counter Strike was mega popular, just because stepping around a corner, getting head shot from an AWP half a map away and having to wait X amount of time for the next round was...boring.

I do miss the days of death match and ctf in Quake. Back when you heard "QUAD DAMAGE!" and almost shit yourself cause you knew even the tiniest of hits meant instagib. Rocket jumping off the ground to dash to the flag and win the game with a hail mary cap, those were the days man.

They just don't make them like they used to.

The problem is, if they did, nobody would buy them. Id was still making old school shooters before Rage and got lambasted for it. Here they're trying to make something more modern...and getting lambasted for it.

These days, I prefer games with a plot. Where I'm doing something meaningful and progressing. Sure we wouldn't be here today without the old school FPS but, like buggy whips, that's yesterday and it won't fly today.

I know Carmack deserves a lot of respect for what he has accomplished in gaming, but where the hell has he been for the past ten to fifteen years? Making Orcs & Elves? Someone enlighten me if id has been anything but a bit-player on the scene for going on over a decade now. If I'm wrong, I'd love to know, because I love the guy's contributions and would like to think he's still contributing, rather than sipping margaritas while sitting in his sports car on a private beach in Maui.

You mean he's not suppose to be a human being? Gasp!

Considering his contributions since the mid-90s are on the order of DNF, I'd say it's more than just being 'human.'

Unless someone can set me straight on that. I may well be wrong, and id/Carmack may have been influential in the past ten to fifteen years and I missed it. That's entirely possible. What the hell have they been doing?
