Fornite's "Survive the Holidays" Event and "Battle Pass" Detailed

Epic Games would like you to know that Fortnite is getting festive for the holidays, and selling a Battle Pass.

Quote:
Epic Games has launched its “Survive the Holidays” event for Fortnite, which includes all-new game content for both Battle Royale and Save the World!

Some details on the update can be found below and full patch notes can be found here. Fortnite is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac. Fortnite Battle Royale is completely free; Fortnite’s PvP “Save the World” is in paid Early Access, and will be free in 2018.

Fortnite Battle Royale (PvP)

Season 2 for Battle Royale players kicks off with the all-new Battle Pass! Players who purchase a Battle Pass will immediately get sweet cosmetic loot with more than 65+ rewards unlocked for progression throughout the season. Players can get more details in the recently released “Battle Pass Overview” video.

The mode also gets a festive update with a limited-time Snowball Grenade Launcher weapon and other fun visual updates. Additionally, the game has been updated to add new daily quests, updated UI, bug fixes, and general game improvements.

Save the World (PvE)

The Fortnite Guide to Holiday Survival is here! This limited time holiday event brings an all-new questline, exclusive holiday-themed loot and activities, Holiday Heroes, new weapons, the addition of mini-bosses, and more.

The “Survive the Storm” event also returns on an all-new Winter survival map with festive trees, snow, and a mountain vista. Epic has also listened to player feedback on the mode and brought a number of improvements, including rebalanced difficulty, resourcing, and rewards.

As always, the update brings a ton of bug fixes and updates to the Early Access title.

Anyone been playing this?

I've been kind of curious about it, but hesitant to buy in when I've heard it's going F2P next year.

What do you think of it? Is there enough content to keep someone entertained?

It's F2P right now, and YES you should be playing it. In the Battle Royale Mode I think you'll find its actually quite a lot of fun.

They do a good PR thing when they make sure they always add:

Yeah, Early Access is a technicality like being able to say you're a virgin because the only porn you've ever filmed was Anal or that one time you went down on that dude when you were drunk. Too many other games hope people forget this until they need to pull out the "But I'm a virgin, you can't hold me accountable for stuff like you'd hold a real grown up game accountable " card.

PUBG you little whore. Tell it to Rommel; I ain't got no time for dat.

In other news, Fortnite PvE is way too much overhead to play. You end up playing the UI 90% of the time with brief breaks where you then actually jump into a match.

Heaven forbid you have to get a pick-up group in said match because usually you end up with a couple of Retard Rambos who start the ATLAS, Van, or whatever long before you've had enough time to scavenge for anything resembling sufficient materials to get enough ammo much less nifty cool drops.

The rewards from the llamas are so stingy I expect Vegas and Atlantic City are beating down the doors of Epic's HQ to find out if Satan is directly intervening with Congress on their behalf or if they have another way to get away with such miniscule odds of giving away anything good.

BR is what it is. It may be the most interesting version out there and certainly looks the best if you aren't into the "realistic" look and 10 FPS of PUBG (regardless of platform). It is also probably the most tactical since you not only have time to react to an engagement but you have so many ways TO react. Build (tons of options), aggro, retreat...

Anyway. If I were to get into a BR game this would probably be my pick ATM. But give it 6 months. Battle Royale is the new MOBA, pretty soon you won't be able to go to Steam without a front page full of them.

The game is alright but the grind sets in quick and, as vallor mentioned, the rewards to boost weapons and allies isn't that great.

Worth trying out just to see the concept at play, but I think what they originally envisioned it as and what they pivoted towards due to PUBG that refining the single player experience became far less of a priority.

Early Access / Perpetual Beta is a marketing joke.

What Vallor said. There is a AAA game hiding in there somewhere under the UI.

I wasn't impressed with Battle Royale. Takes 10 minutes to find someone and then you are dead in a little 1v1 duel. Lame. People really are all that jazzed about PUBG?

For example, the UI is so bad that there is options to customize your character somewhere, but after 5 hours of play I can't find them.
