Some People Want Fortnite Banned For "Brainwashing" Loved Ones

GameSpot has the story.

Quote:
Frustrated with how engrossed their loved ones have become with Fortnite, hundreds of people have signed a petition simply titled, "Get rid of Fortnite." Its mission is to ban the game so that significant others' free time can be reclaimed.

As reported by the Washington Post (which, it should be said, is itself evident of Fortnite's popularity), the Change.org petition has accumulated about 730 signatures at the time of this writing. Most express frustration that their loved ones are neglecting them in favor of the game; as Chloe DePalma wrote, "It's taking over our boyfriends lives and brainwashing them."

This petition is obviously meant in jest; Fortnite will in no way be banned, and it's likely that the majority of petitioners know that. But it's a testament to the Fortnite phenomenon that this petition has resonated with many people across social media. As for the anonymous creator of the petition, they updated the change.org site with an explanation that it was started as a joke--and, recently, they've begun playing Fortnite and actually enjoy it.

My wife and I got an email from our son’s teacher (6th grade) warning parents about how obsessed the class is with the game and how kids are coming in tired from staying up too late playing it. Thankfully my son has no interest in the game, not that it’s bad but just so he doesn’t get swept up in the mania.

The sentiment it represents is no joke. This is America today, encapsulated quite succinctly. You can't deal with it? BAN IT!

Nobody wants to take control of their own lives today, but they sure as hell are happy to do it to others' lives through bans and such. My son LOVES this game, and when he has school work or needs to go to bed or do his chores, I don't let him on it, or I kick him off of it. Of my six kids, he's the laziest academically. We check his work every damn day and there's no electronics in the house on school days until after 5 p.m.. Period. And not at ALL if your work or chores aren't complete.

FFS, be responsible for your own lives rather than screaming for daddy day care to ban something you're too weak to deal with on your own.

What do they think this petition is going to accomplish? I'm pretty sure when you tell people a game is very addicting, it actually makes them WANT to play it. These petition people are idiots. You can't buy publicity like this.

Yeah, it actually make me consider giving it a try.

Once again its the media war against video games.

Fortnite is just like any other video game, sooner or later people will grow tired of the game and move on to new stuff.

Kept my grandson who's ten last week while he was out of school on spring break. He pretty much played Fortnite nonstop unless he was sleeping or we left the house to do something. It's what all the kids his days are into. No more Minecraft for them.

I haven't tried the multi player yet. The Save the World co-op is ok. Random PUG's all rush to the objective and start it. While I prefer to explore and collect resources. So I don't PUG. Not many people I know are playing it on Xbox or PC. It is cross-platform for Xbox and PC at least.

Same with my kids. MS once again succeeded in buying a property at its peak valuation (Minecraft) only to watch it bleed away to an ignominious (probable) death like Rare, Ensemble, etc., etc..

If you need a petition to curb your child's "addiction", you should not be allowed to parent.

I'm so god-damned sick of these useless parents. Why have kids if you aren't competent enough to raise them? Fucking idiots.

Minecraft still prints Money. I don't think Microsoft or Mojang has to worry just yet.

MS is working on changing that, don't worry. Rare and Ensemble await with open arms.
