A k/m is indisputably faster and more precise, so multiplayer with gamers using k/m against a gamepad will be inherently slanted to one side's advantage (k/m). That's not 'superiority' or 'fair/unfair,' it's just something we call 'reality.'

Use whatever method you prefer, just know that each has strengths and weaknesses. I often use a hybrid approach on my PC, with gamepad for movement and combat in RPGs, and the k/m for inventory control.
