(The gameplay seems kinda lame and busy with too much explosions, but the characters are spot-on.)
What I find weird is that Spider-Man PS4 used original designs for all of the characters, but everything felt right. Costumes aside, Peter, Otto, MJ, Aunt May, and everyone else all featured character designs unique to the game, but none of them really felt off.

They tried to emulate the MCU versions a little too closely, I think. I don't think we'd be seeing nearly as many complaints if they had used the comic versions as inspiration (much like how the comics have been using the MCU costumes as inspiration over the past few years).

The comics aren’t really using the MCU costumes as inspiration, it is the other way around. The movies have mostly been taking their art from the “Ultimates” series back in the 90’s. That is where they gave Captain America the “Helmet” and where you got Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

I totally agree, Spider-Man did their own thing (though it has costumes from tons of different Spider-Man issues) and it was perfect.

The could have done the same thing here, it isn’t the variants that are the problem it is just that the art looks like generic stock art and the faces look like generic background character faces from like the 360/PS3 era or even older.

Nothing about this game feels like a next generation game and the descriptions of gameplay from E3 said it is mostly 3rd person hallway shooter. That doesn’t quite compare to Spider-Man’s giagantic open version of New York.

I think they need to take a serious look at what they are doing, because I don’t see how they can release this in a year and have it be a success. It seems like a project that needs to go back to the drawing board in both design and art and that’s a mountain of work.

I wouldn't say that's really accurate, because Cap's most recent costumes are most definitely influenced - to one degree or another - by the movies. They've certainly fed each other, but to outright deny it is just wrong. They completely redid Starlord's look to match the movie version, for example.

I'm still curious to see how it turns out, but I'm definitely not pulling the trigger until we have more concrete info.
