Nope, no fake news here folks!

This is just another example of the gotcha politics that, in my view, the left really turned into an art. I'm sure it came before I was paying attention but I noticed it in my youth with the skewering of people like Dan Quail or Sarah Palin throughout our pop culture. And when you see the dumb things some of said by the heroes of the left and then ignored, it really shows you what's up. The tactic was then adopted by the right under Obama (poorly so in my opinion) and perfected via the memes of the 2016. And in reaction it has now has been absolutely blown out of control by the left. They are so desperate to catch Trump doing something or saying something evil or dumb and so they do segments like this. I don't think people in the middle really care but the real ideologues and partisans just come away from it all actually thinking that Trump is the most stupid and evil person to ever be conceived.

EDIT:
And now I'm hearing that the networks don't want to cover the daily briefings from President Trump as much. I guess they're bitter that his approval of the handling of this pandemic as well as his general approval rating are pretty high.

What's happening where I live is, they are sending care packets to retired people. The packet is full of food stuff and such to tide you over. I'm not completely sure why they are doing it, but maybe to entice old people to stay home, or make sure they are taken care of in case they are too scared to go outside and have no one else to do it for them. The packets are sent indiscriminate, regardless of whether you need them or not, because they can't really know that, they just want to make sure people are okay.

What I see outside is crazy. ordinary people, friends and neighbours, staying so at distance that they only talk with each other by yelling across the streets. Any people that are grouping up risk being caught and fined with 500 Euro or more. Regardless if you agree with all this insanity, it's a picture that stays with you, how far things can suddenly go, everything going upside down. Personally I lead my life rather normal, I haven't been sick of anything in over ten years, by my habits. I've always washed my hands first thing when I come home, or sometimes even shower straight away, and a bunch of other simple cautions, so all this is nothing new to me. I am still affected of course, since whether I like it or not, all kinds of places are closed I'd like to go to. I was actually looking forward going to the cinema and enjoying a big empty room all for myself, but it's all closed. But yeah, is all crazy shit to live through. I wonder how much longer this is supposed to go like that.

I'm hearing that Hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin tablets are useful if you have the virus. There hasn't been much testing, but people taking them have gotten better. Then again, many people have gotten better without taking them, so there is that.

Also, there is this:

Woman and Husband Ingest Chloroquine After Seeing Trump Talk About It On Live TV

Quote:
"We saw Trump on TV -- every channel -- & all of his buddies and that this was safe," she said. "Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure."
I feel terrible for her, but the story is amazing in a Darwinian sort of way. To summarize:
  • Tweet 1: Woman sick and husband dead after ingesting chloroquine after seeing Trump tout it on TV
  • Tweet 2: They had no symptoms, but took it for good measure
  • Tweet 3: She found it in the back of the pantry while stacking dog food
  • Tweet 4: "I’m 61. My husband is 68. We’re healthy. No, no, underlying--no diabetes or lung issues. Nothing."
  • Tweet 5: "Oh my God. Don't take anything. Don't believe anything."
  • Tweet 6: Here is a recording of her, "Don’t believe anything that the President says & his people...call your doctor."
  • Tweet 7: Here is another recording of her: Where did you get it? "I had it in the house because I used to have koi fish..."
  • Tweet 8: “The toxic ingredient they consumed was not the medication form of chloroquine, used to treat malaria in humans. Instead, it was an ingredient listed on a parasite treatment for fish.”

It took until the 7th and 8th tweets to finally get to the lead. They ingested fish cleaning chemicals because one of the ingredients was Chloroquine. I wonder which way that "journalist" leans?

And yes, idiots are actually blaming Trump for this. TDS is a real thing.

Oh man, that's between hilarious and just sad. Damn it. This whole craze is gonna kill more people than the virus itself.

Hard to believe he lived as long as he did & that she hadn't offed herself years ago trying to ingest Tide Pods.

Yep, Terran pointed it out a couple of days ago, but I thought the entire story needed to be told...

Whatever you do, don't tell people water is safe to drink. Do you know how many cleaners have that as an ingredient? DAMN THAT TRUMP!

Again your deflecting. China isn't a 3rd world country anymore. The learned a lesson when they got Hong Kong back from the UK. And designated a bunch of cities as special economic zones. Which has resulted in a pretty strong economy despite the normal failings of communism/socialism.

The Chinese government had 17 years to address the cause of their first SARS outbreak. They did nothing. Now we have SARS 2.

The Chinese government knew on Dec 1st that they had a problem. They didn't mention anything to the World Health Organization Dec 31st.

Quote:
So when did China know about the virus, and when did the U.S. find out? The answer to both questions is difficult to pinpoint. But let’s start with China.

According to the World Health Organization, symptoms from the first cluster of confirmed cases emerged between Dec. 8 and Jan. 2. A study on the novel coronavirus published in The Lancet reported, “The symptom onset date of the first patient identified was Dec 1, 2019.”

On Dec. 31, the Chinese informed the World Health Organization’s China office “of a pneumonia of unknown cause, detected in the city of Wuhan in Hubei province, China. According to the authorities, some patients were operating dealers or vendors in the Huanan Seafood market.”

The WHO says it then “began monitoring the situation and requested further information on the laboratory tests performed and the different diagnoses considered.”

On Feb. 1, the Washington Post, citing “official statements, leaked accounts from Chinese medical professionals, newly released scientific data and interviews with public health officials and infectious disease experts,” documented efforts by the Chinese government to tamp down information about the virus “during the critical period from mid-December to mid-January.”

According to the Post, “Medical professionals who tried to sound an alarm were seized by police. Key state media omitted mention of the outbreak for weeks. ”

By Jan. 11, the Chinese had shared the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus, which could then be used by other countries to develop diagnostic kits. Still, the Washington Post reported, “Key information about who got sick and when was not released publicly until weeks later, scientists and researchers said.” - https://www.factcheck.org/2020/03/co...isinformation/
Interesting documentary on Shenzhen. City designated as a special economic zone:

WSJ: Coronavirus is ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE less deadly than the alarmists are making it out to be.

Quote:
If we’re right about the limited scale of the epidemic, then measures focused on older populations and hospitals are sensible. Elective procedures will need to be rescheduled. Hospital resources will need to be reallocated to care for critically ill patients. Triage will need to improve. And policy makers will need to focus on reducing risks for older adults and people with underlying medical conditions.

A universal quarantine may not be worth the costs it imposes on the economy, community and individual mental and physical health. We should undertake immediate steps to evaluate the empirical basis of the current lockdowns.
No later than mid-April, we're back in business. There will be residual laggards, the fearful who freak over any and everything, but most folks will get back to LIVING.

I've been hanging out in Corona Twitch streams. Im sensing some major paid shill gaslighting going on. I try to engage these people in chat, they seem to follow a script. Nothing but doomsday talk, knowing full well that even if we do nothing that doesn't happen... The full court press to stop Trump in November may have started already.

I watched a 3 min vid on CBS last night. Spooky music playing, showing Trump shaking hads with world leaders who had corona or who had come in contact with people who had it. Twilight zone shit....

From the previous article: "If our surmise of six million cases is accurate, that’s a mortality rate of 0.01%, assuming a two week lag between infection and death. This is one-tenth of the flu mortality rate of 0.1%. Such a low death rate would be cause for optimism."

TEN TIMES LESS DEADLY THAN REGULAR FLU.

The Senate bill.

A little light reading. In legalese.

You know, if we had any damned journalists around who were worthy of their career, they'd list the highlights in plain English. I've tried like crazy to find just that, a bullet-point list, and I haven't been able to find jack squat.

I'm frustrated as hell with the ENTIRE media universe. They just don't do their damn job, it's all lazy opinion and ideological shitburgers.

On top of that, it's insane that these things are written in ways that people can't really understand. I get it, you have to cover your ass for legal reasons etc but these bills shouldn't be so complicated that people can't just read and understand them. Despite the benefits, there's no way that all of this language isn't hiding cronyism on both sides.

I don't subscribe to WSJ, so I can't read it...but I can see that this is an opinion piece. While I'm unable to read it and can't speak on whatever it is the author is claiming, taking opinion articles as fact is about as advisable as listening to any of the talking heads or pundits and treating what they say as gospel.

We're caught between a rock and a hard place, without a doubt. By potentially overreacting, we're stepping dangerously close to tanking the economy. By doing comparatively little (or nothing), we're taking the risk of sacrificing millions to help support the economy (which could still tank if the virus ripped through our population and culled millions). Like I've been saying, I hope you're right. I really, really do. I hope we can emerge from this in just a couple of weeks, and everything just goes back to as normal as we can get it. Looking at the global picture, however...I'm just not sure.

Based on his symptoms, I'm afraid my brother-in-law has it; he lives in the area that is essentially Ground Zero in my state, so there's a uncomfortably high chance he contracted it. We'll likely never know, because he's stubborn and won't go to the hospital...and even if he did, there simply aren't enough tests; they're only using them on healthcare professionals and the really sick. From what his wife has been describing to us, however, it sounds like he's got a pretty severe case of pneumonia developing. His lungs just rattle.

It is, but it is an opinion based upon the hard data (incomplete as that is) currently available.

I think the truth of this thing is going to be in the eye of the beholder. Alarmists will say the numbers would have been higher/worse without the measures we took, back-to-work-ists will say it was never as bad as predicted and we blew the best economy in a lifetime.

They'll both be right, which is a helluva thing. We'd need an alternate set of realities to test which approach was better.

I hope not, and that he's fine soon whatever it is. If he has any other health issues, I'd recommend he get help. This flu is very serious for those with comorbidities.

WellI'd say a pretty severe case of pneumonia qualifies as really sick. And you have no idea if there would be a test for him. Why not call ahead and see if he can be tested? Don't just believe whatever the media is saying about tests (the amount of politics they're playing during all of this is downright dangerous.) The situation seems to be changing rapidly as far as testing goes. He may really need one and he may get one. Best of luck and keep us informed if you don't mind.
