Xbox Series X: Fast Load And Quick Resume.

Click the headline to watch the videos.

Via Gamespot
Quote:
With a custom internal SSD that Microsoft has designed specifically for speed, the Xbox Series X will be able to load games faster and suspend multiple games at a time for quick resume. Both of these features have been spoken about in the past, but two new demos show exactly how they will work.

Faster load times is easy to understand, but seeing it compared to the Xbox One is revelatory. The demo uses State of Decay 2 as an example, which takes notoriously long to first load into your procedurally populated world. On the Xbox Series X this initial load takes around 10 seconds, while the Xbox One takes five times long at 50 seconds.

They are also selling their own proprietary SSD expansion drives that are only 1 TB each.

I think $599 sounds reasonable.

I'm surprised they're including a Blu-ray drive. Who still uses discs?

Pretty much everyone, that's GameStop's whole business.

OK I will 4K HDR stream purchase movies... have almost 200. But I still have a sizable collection of Bluray discs and tons of disc as well as digital games so yeah ummm think a little. PSP Go says hello, too.

I have 1 UHD 4k film. Just one. I'm not willing to buy some crappy player that might work for six months so, for me, this new xBoner (or whatever it's called) might come in handy.

I love my NvME drive in my PC. The damn thing loads Windows in the blink of an eye and my load times in games are super short.

Glad to see them come to consoles, though I picked up a 2TB one on a holiday sale (very fast 3600gbps) for $140 so $250 sounds like someone is adding a super premium to me.

I've always hated that about console manufacturers.

After the Xbox One debacle I am not surprised how transparent MS is being about the Series X.

But they've got a lot of ground to make up. I'm actually really happy with their implementation of the external drive, makes it much like an old school memory card, though not the price.

As much as I hope the size will grow or the price will drop I think this is their version of a memory card and we won't see either from 1st party. I wouldn't be surprised to see 3rd parties like Mad Catz or others fill the gap though, like they did in the old days, with Drives 3, 4, or 10x the size and twice the features for half the cost of the official drives.

I hope so. I don't want to drop that much for 1 TB. At least Sony will let you use drives from whomever that meet their spec. Looks like in the beginning it will be shuffling games around all over again.

I have two now. War for the Planet of the Apes and The Magnificent Seven. I got them mostly because it was the cheapest version available the day I ordered and they both come with the regular Blu ray.
