PlayStation 4 Passes 75 Million Milestone

Eurogamer has the story.

Quote:
PlayStation 4 shipments have now passed 76.5m consoles.

Sony shifted another 9m consoles during the three months ending 31st December, 2017 - although this figure was slightly down (by 700k) on the same period in 2016.

Still, the PlayStation division's profits were way up - from 617bn to 718bn yen - thanks to an increase in PlayStation software sales, of which Sony takes a cut.

PS4 is the undisputed winner of this current console generation (Microsoft has stopped releasing its own hardware figures to avoid comparisons) and is now closing in on the 83.8m lifetime sales of PS3.

One of the best gaming moves i made was switching from xbox to PS4. I doubt I will ever switch if Sony plays it right. I am invested in the ecosystem with movie purchases, games, etc. I even sold my PS4 for $275 and bought a PS4 Pro. I feel it was worth it. I could tell the graphic difference. I also have a PC so I enjoy both worlds but I spend a lot of time with the PS4.

I swear if I wasn't so dang financially invested into Microsoft already I would jump ship. As it stands I am contemplating an Xbone X for monster hunter.....

I have 3 PS4s, one of them is a Pro and I love them all. I just wish SSDs weren't so expensive. I really want to put a 4TB SSD in my Pro but they are freak'n $1,500!! I have Xbox Ones for Halos and Gears, everything else is on my PS4. Even if I had a 1080Ti in my PC I'd still be playing my PS4 more because of how easy it is and the AAA titles that are only on the PS4. They REEEEEALLY need to just enable backwards compatibility for PS1 and PS2 discs. I don't see what the big deal is, its powerful enough.

If one of your PS4's is on a low enough firmware, you can "jailbreak" it with a web exploit, which allows PS2 backwards compatibility.
