Dying Light 2 Delayed to Unknown Date

Seems like the new hardware has caused a lot of games to get bumped as they get versions ready for both the old and new systems.

Damn. Cyberpunk and DL2 were the titles I was most anxiously waiting for this year. At least the games will be well polished. Still a bummer though.

These "delays" are probably just studios gauging if they should even bother with the Xbox One/PS4 versions when the next generation of consoles are just months away (barring any unforeseen delays).

They'd be fools to chase XBSX or PS5. The installed base won't be big enough unless they have a split SKU. Plus they won't be able to release the PS5 or XBSX remaster later!

I don't think this has anything to do with PS5 at all.

For CDPR, as an example, this is a mature studio that is healthy enough to think long term. There's more than enough research in software development to show that death marches are just a plain bad idea and CDPR has the kind of weight to say "why bother?" and make it stick with a publisher.

I don't know about Techland but DL2 is a pretty big 2020 release as well.

I mean it can really go either way, but in past generations people have stopped investing in games for the old generation consoles around one year before the new one is announced to come out. Granted the new consoles are supposed to be backwards compatible so that might change things up. And while there can be a smaller user base, people early on tend to be less picky about the games they buy and the studios get a lot more buzz from their games being showcased during the consoles launch presentation at E3 or private shows.
