Ready Player One

Want to call yourself a Gamer? You should be reading Ernest Cline's novel, Ready Player One. It is filled with more 80's video game and movie trivia than a time-traveling Delorean.

You can view a video interview with Ernest Cline on BoingBoing.

(Read a PDF with the first three chapters of Ready Player One.)

This book is great fun. If you long for the 80's it will bring back fond memories and if you love video games you will discover a mountain of obscure classic coin-op era love. Highly recommended.

A novel? Seriously? He should have went with a coffee table book imo.

It is actually a pretty good read. Just started this one last week, and other than the influx of 80's nostalgia with games and movies, I dig the concept of an eccentric genius leaving his fortune in his virtual world game for the world to find. The plot device is interesting, and you pretty much root for the main character. Not bad.

Agreed. I want Alcoholica Esoterica for video games, but I will give this a look.

Loved this book. Really fun ride and definitely squarely aimed at gamers.

I read 3 pages and knew I wanted to read the rest. The idea and his style of writing are pretty good. And now I read they will be adapting it to a movie.

I picked it up on the release day via the Sci Fi book club and didn't start reading it until Sunday. I blew through the first 300 pages in one day. I'm only about 50 pages from the end now and I don't really want it to end.

Great fiction like this is really inspiring.

Downloaded the .pdf and reading through it whilst they try to get our accounting interface back up and running. Definitely going to buy this and finish it off. Been reading the A Song of Fire and Ice books by George R. R. Martin after watching one episode of Game of Thrones on HBO. When I'm finished with book two, I plan on finishing Ready Player One just to break it up a bit. Much thanks for the post. Once I read his log-in pass, my mind was made up and book ordered.

happy gaming...er, reading
