Pure Evil - Ding! Level 20

I hit Level 20 in Destiny after a single day of gameplay. There is still a few single player missions to go through. I played a lot of the little side missions to build up Reputation with the different planetary factions and was able to farm a Purple Engram on every planet.

Destiny 2 is a lot like Destiny 1. Too much like Destiny 1. It's a huge expansion pack, only they didn't let you keep any of your stuff and instead gave you crappy stuff you don't want. The beginning weapons and armor not only are weak, they look like ass.

I understand the story is that you are crawling your way back from destruction and even with that some of the fun seems to have been leached out of the game because all the beginning armor looks so dull.

I see people are starting to score a few nicer items here and there. Let's hope that as more content gets dropped that we can get back to grinding for nice gear again.

I'm having a good time, but at this point the game is a little disappointing. It's Destiny 2.0, not Destiny 2.

Grr, I'm just level 14 as I haven't had that much time to play. I will get in some time this weekend though. Also, I sent a clan request.

There are a few nice improvements, but not a lot. Adding the kinetic weapon types to the energy weapon pool was nice. Also, it's nice not to have to go back to space all the time just to start a new mission. Public events are announced ahead of time so you have a chance to get there and join (I did that most of last night). And fast travel.

I haven't really seen any new enemies. Right now it's still the Fallen, Hive, and Vex. I'm expecting the Taken to show up at some point.

I agree, this is not a 2.

At light level 217 the gear still looks as if it was garbage picked.

Call me G.I. Joe! (Yes, I was going for the Uncle Fester look, but it came up Lurch.)

Anything you actually liked, lol? All you said was, "yeah it sucks, but I'll still play it".

So far... No. It's a lot of the exact same content we have been playing for two years and literally nothing new so far. No new enemies, no decent gear and they took an enormous shit all over multiplayer by limiting it to 4v4 matches.

It makes you wonder why it took two years? This is 100% content that could have just been rolled out into Destiny 1.0 by adding more planets or more locations to the current maps.

I'm playing kinda waiting to see what kind of rewards you get at higher levels (are we back to being stuck at Level 20 again???) and waiting to see if more story content gets rolled out in DLC.

It's the same game, so it is still fun to play, but hardly worth a $60 price tag or the $99 you would pay for the game and the DLC.

If you aren't a huge Destiny fan, I would totally tell you to wait till it hits $25.

I guess that sends a mixed message. As a big Destiny fan I was starved for new content and this gives me a ton of new stuff to play, but it isn't the AAA sequel I think I was hoping for.

I think I'm going to pick up Star Wars BattleFront II when we run out of content here and I don't expect that will take all that long.

Bungie got divorced from a praying mantis* and married a demanding abuser.* Good luck returning to the magic of Halo/Halo 2. Never.

* MS kills their 'mates.' Ask Ensemble.

* Ask Infinity Ward's founders.

Thanks Evil for your honest take on it. I didn't play Destiny at all and I was drawn in by all the commercial hype and reviews about it. I was still sitting on the fence whether to get it on the PS4 or not. I think I would wait for the GOTY edition then or till it hits the bargain bin.

How else are they going to encourage you to buy shaders? You don't have to spend any additional money on cosmetics. But if you don't you will look really bland.

Oh, and they corrected that mistake they made in Destiny 1 of making shaders re-usable. They are now single use. I guess they weren't selling enough custom shaders or something. They do allow you to color each piece of gear now, though.

What bullshit. In Diablo 3 I can transmogrify my gear to look like anything I've previously found in that class of items, and I have more colors than the rainbow to pain them with as well. No real-world price attached, do it all day if you want (would be boring, lol).

Sounds completely stupid the way they've set that up.

You have to remember that it took, what, three years for transmog to be a part of Diablo 3, and that game also originally shipped with a real money store. Bungie will likely not change the Shaders until they either find no one is buying them, or the flow of money is low enough that making them reusable is a PR win.

I think they hope people will spend money on shaders, but just playing through the single player campaign I have like 50+ shaders lying around and a bunch of them have 4+ charges.

I think because you can earn Purple engrams just by doing the public events and killing high value targets that the only way you would need to purchase shaders is if you just see one that you feel you "have to own".

I colored my ship a green cammo today and seriously I don't think I'll be changing it again any time soon. The last time I changed my ship was because it was part of the Queen's quest and it was an exclusive ship, then later they had the non-exclusive version of the same ship available. Now, if they did the same thing it wouldn't matter if it was a quest exclusive color because you can just re-color it yourself.

I do have one good piece of gear now, so there is hope that you can acquire decent gear down the road and I imagine that since they re-used everything else, we should see pretty much all of the old armor and weapons making a second appearance at some point.

Important to note that finishing the single player campaign does change things up a bit. You will see that when you finish it, it's not a long campaign at all. I did it in a day and a half. And I spent a lot of that day and a half doing the public events in order to stock up on tokens to turn into the planetary bosses.

Not sure what you expected really. It was fairly obvious from all the marketing it was more of the same with the things that irked people about Destiny 1 addressed. Things like Public events showing up on the map, a cohesive narrative that makes logical sense, better group finding systems etc etc.

I'm at 269 light. The gear does get better. Exotics drop like crazy compared to D1. I have 10 already, one was a pre-order bonus and another was from a quest chain(Sturm - Handcannon). I even got one from a Legendary engram. I have 50 hours of play time per the Xbox app.

Good point. D3 was a mess for a year or more at launch. Can't remember how long because it's so good since then.

It is definitely an evolution vs a revolution in design. I mean when you think about sequels, I guess really that is how it generally works. The locations in this one are a lot more interesting and look better designed at first glance. There are a lot more little things to do that are presented better. I wish there were more locales though instead of basically the same number of places as the first, just different.

I wonder if Bungie is the kind of company to release a DLC pack that goes back to some of thelocations from the first, but spruced up or in a drastically different state than they were in the first. For nostalgia...

I got 3 from story quests and 1 as a random drop from a public event. I'm only using one weapon and one piece of armor. I converted the others to gems and dust.

They do seem easier to get and you can turn in tokens to get purple engrams and use those to generate more gems for upgrading your weapons and armor.

The whole system seems a little smoother than the previous game.

I haven't looked around HQ enough after finishing the story to see if there is a wall that tracks all your Legendary's or not.

I hope they do, I liked the Reef stuff when it was added, but they never did much with it beyond the Zone of Enders. I would love to see a few new quests back on changed versions of the old maps.
