Detroit: America's Next Tech Boomtown

Quote:
"Over the past few years, the growth rate in Detroit tech jobs has been twice the natural average. The reason is the industry that still makes Detroit a company town: U.S. automotive companies are getting into high tech in a big way, and need qualified people to help them do it. Another bonus: the rent is a lot cheaper than it is in San Francisco. '[A]ccording to Automation Alley's 2013 Technology Industry Report, the metro Detroit area grew to a total of 242,520 technology industry jobs in 2011, representing a 15% increase from the 2010 level of 210,984 technology industry jobs. No other benchmarked region had greater technology industry growth than metro Detroit in this period. Further, according to the report, this growth helped propel metro Detroit to a ranking of fourth among the 14 benchmarked regions, passing San Jose."
Granted, what's really taking off around here is Automotive/Biotech but I've seen this coming for a long time and game developers would be more than welcome to occupy our sweet gotham style lofts. Now all we need is a Tsunami or Kaiju to rise from the lakes to wash out the garbage and we'll be back in business. (tho I suspect it would take a few Kaiju before they actually put a dent in us. We don't fuck around)

I'm sure it's... uh... great. I'm just not a huge fan of... how should I put it... getting murdered.

This part https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3354...!3m1!1e3?hl=en of this metropolitan area https://www.google.com/maps/@42.2837...!3m1!1e3?hl=en is where most of the bad areas are. Most of the rest of Metro Detroit is decent suburbs and most of the office work is actually outside of Detroit's city limits.

In other news the Robocop remake is a complete piece of disappointing crap. Whatever happened to that statue that was supposed to be erected?
