What were your favorite Saturday morning cartoons. I love the Looney Tunes!

I try to tell my kids how special Saturday mornings used to be but you can't explain it to today's kids. It's like trying to explain why it was so awesome that Charlie Brown Christmas etc were super exciting because they were only on once a year. Shows like Land of the Lost, The Super Friends, or Spiderman and His Amazing Friends were awesome in part because you had to look forward to them all week instead of being able to stream them whenever you wanted. And I love Youtube and streaming services but there's something special about waiting for things.

I know, right? It was amazing. I used to hate that it was only Saturday mornings that had cartoons, but now that I think back it made them way more special then they are today. To think, there was once a time when I couldn't wait to get up at 8am...

My favorite times were right before the new season, when they would have the Saturday Morning sneak-peek shows on Friday night right before it started. I would watch those and then could barely sleep that night...

When I was a really little kid I lived in England and they had shit for TV. Saturdays usually had one or two hours of kids programming, TOPS! then it would devolve into boring shit like dog shows or cricket or some other bullshit.

Then my family moved back to the USA and I learned the magic of the weekend cartoon and sugar cereal circle of life.

For a time adults ruined it, like they ruin everything. For what seemed like FOREVER Saturday Morning Cartoons were interrupted by Special News Broadcasts giving updates on the Iran Hostage situation. Those damn things could be 20 minutes to hours long and preempted everything. Even Scooby Doo!

How un-American. I was so glad when that was over. It cost lives when the rescue attempt failed but having uninterrupted cartoons was worth it.

I was pretty much a Scooby Doo and crew fanboy. The best hour on Saturday was when they aired full episodes of Dynomutt & The Blue Falcon show and Scooby Doo; eventually Dynomutt and Blue Falcon became nothing more than special guest stars. Later on I was too lazy to change the channel so just rolled right in to Captain Caveman, Speed Buggy, the Wacky Races, Grape Ape and some others.

I didn't like Johnny Quest, too close to real life for me, and while I like the animation I never was able to figure out what the hell was going on with Speed Racer. It seemed to be one of those you sort of had to keep up with. To this day I don't really know much about it.

The shows I hated were the ones that had real people in them. Fuck that, totally ruined the point of Saturday morning, I would watch Sesame Street any day. Land of the Lost can suck my taint.

Battle for the Planets was one of my favorites for Saturday morning.

Star Blazers was a fav too, but that one was tricky since it was on at 8am on weekdays and I had to be at school by 8:30 and school was well over a mile away which is a fair hike to a young 'un. So, I only got to watch it when I was sick or if I "accidentally" running late.

And there were a couple hours of cartoons on weekend afternoons too when I was living in California in the early 80s.

YES! I loved those preview shows! I can remember being so excited for Saturday Supercade which was a sort of compilation of arcade character shows like Q*Bert, Pitfall, Donkey Kong, and some others. It ended up being a crappy show but I still ate it up. Then I can remember them talking about a cartoon version of gummy bear candies and I couldn't believe how stupid the idea was. I ended up loving the show though.
