Bungie Canceling Destiny 2 Stream In Favor Of Blog Post Addressing Community Feedback

Game Informer has the story.

Quote:
A few days ago we reported that, along with the final livestream outlining Destiny 2's Curse of Osiris expansion, game director Luke Smith and project lead Mark Noseworthy would discuss various changes Destiny 2 would undergo in December and address community feedback. As it turns out, that first part is no longer true.

In a post on Bungie's forums, community manager David "DeeJ" Dague announced the developer is canceling its livestream covering the weapons and armor of Curse of Osiris. Instead, the company plans to have a blog post on Wednesday (11/29) in which players can expect to read Bungie's current view of the game, the team's future plans, and "how we’re reacting to your feedback with some game updates that will arrive in the next few weeks."

The announcement comes on the heels of several weeks of fan complaints about Destiny 2's endgame (which our own Matt Miller outlines here), as well as a more recent outcry about the way the game was doling out experience to players and the subsequent changes Bungie made in response.

This game is a trainwreck. Every piece of news surrounding this game is negative.

I wouldn't say "preemptive". They are in full-on damage control after the experience throttling debacle. Players discovered the game was secretly throttling back experience while still reporting the full numbers to players. Upon discovery, they (Activision/Bungie) become the "good guys" by doing away with the throttling (they agreed with the players and were not happy with the way it was working), but then they secretly increased the amount of experience needed to earn Bright Tokens (the things they sell for real world cash) which are the only things you use experience for in the end game.

This is actually a huge snafu, especially since one of the other things they sell for real world cash are tokens that increase experience gain. I wonder how many people bought those, only to have the extra experience they paid for wiped out due to the throttling?

Watch for lawsuits shortly.

dunno but this Osiris thing better be interesting. As solid as the game is in terms of reason to play after being 305 and having everything I need on all 3 of my characters I haven't touched the game in a month? I mean yes that was the appeal to be just a weekend warrior and still be relevant but I was hoping for another system in place that would keep me playing after the loot grind.

All of this is crazy, I love the game. Its not as good as the first one, but the first one was out for a while and had a lot of time to mature. This is the best game available in its genre. I am waiting to see new stuff about Borderlands 3 though, GIVE ME A TRAILER OR SOMETHING ALREADY!!!

I've been having a lot of fun logging in almost daily for a few runs. I like that there is always gear progression no matter what I do and I'm in no rush to get to 300. I suspect I'll still be gearing up when the DLC hits. Don't really understand people who max out all characters and complain there is nothing left to do, did you not get hours and hours of fun to justify the price tag? Maybe the expectations were set to play this like an MMO with months of content, but it just isn't that.

Clearly they are in reactive mode in your list of changes they have made, but the preemption I'm talking about is cancelling a community opportunity with Bungie that would probably have consisted mainly of pitchforks and verbal bonfires.

I've had fun with Destiny 2. Everyone else I was playing with has kind of faded off.
I'm still hopping in to play here and there, but I have been really beat up by the Nightfalls. The time restriction is brutal. It's rough when you spend 15 or 20 minutes plugging away at one, just to get nothing.

For the life of me, I don't understand why people play games like this. When I see games that offer, like, "double experience weekend!" and stuff, my brain can't wrap around it. Why would you play a game that offers you having to play less of the game as an asset? It's not like Double Coupon Tuesday where you are paying less MONEY. That makes sense. You WANT money. But if a game is treating time like a currency, and playing less is a boon, it seems like something is SERIOUSLY wrong with the game design. Or the player.

It seems to me that as soon as a game is even in a position where throttling experience makes sense, we've alreayd gone so far off the reservation that it's worth asking why people are subjecting themelves to ANY of this?

You nailed it.

The game was supposed to be an end in and of itself, and we (meaning they) have willfully rejected that because we (meaning they) have decided games need to be engines for profit first and foremost, and providing joy and amusement is now a secondary concern, if it is even a concern at all.

They can do that but it has to be DLC with new areas and weapons you get through playing the game. No nerfing and herding you to buy lootboxes.

These morons needs to get this through their heads. Hope they didn't kill Destiny. I like it.
