Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher dies age 60

From People magazine:

Quote:
Carrie Fisher, the actress best known as Star Wars‘ Princess Leia Organa, has died after suffering a heart attack. She was 60.

Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd:

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” reads the statement.

“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 23, when she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics removed her from the flight and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a heart attack. She later died in the hospital.

The daughter of showbiz veteran Debbie Reynolds and entertainer Eddie Fisher, Fisher was brought up in the sometimes tumultuous world of film, theatre and television.

Escaping Hollywood in 1973, the star enrolled in the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, where she spent over a year studying acting.

What a shame. Just terrible. It is like a punch in the gut for sure. I feel like I lost a family member.

Carrie Fisher once said "No matter how I go, I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, and strangled by my own bra".

RIP Princess.

She was clever, no doubt about it. I admit to my share of fantasies about her back in the day and she will always be part of the most iconic movies of my life. I feel sad she's gone and she'll be missed in future Star Wars movies though I'm not sure the Episode VII Leia is who I expected. I hope people don't stop cosplaying Leia after this because the really good ones are some of the highlights of Comic-con and it will keep the best of her in the minds of everyone.

That said, just like George Michael she (and so many others) killed herself by inches over 30 years. Maybe that's the curse of the businesses they are in. I try not to judge since I have my bad habits that will contribute to my death just the same. When I die people will say "He shouldn't have drank as much soda as he did" or "He shouldn't have smoked for 30 years" (I'm 4 years quit!). Of course it won't be front page news all over the world.

That's how I feel. Star Wars came out when I was 11 years old. After seeing the film in 1977 I was awestruck. She was an icon to me ever since. R.I.P. Princess.

Damn she was so beautiful. During the 80s and into the early 90s there were many incredibly gorgeous women but she was one of the most authentic, IMO. Most of the rest seemed more in the pin-up style (think Heather Locklear). Unfortunately time, the hardness of the business, and plastic surgery took it's toll.

It's weird.

I was born in the 80s, so, for me, Star Wars simply has always been. As a result, I've never seen Carry Fisher as a sex symbol the way kids who grew up in the 70s apparently do. I just can't look at her that way. Even the slave leia thing. I was in my early 20s before I realized that was supposed to be sexy. When I see other women dressed up pretending to be Leia, I get it. But just not Carrie Fisher. She's like my kindergarten teacher or something. I get that she's nice looking, but that's it.
