One of the very, very few game series that make me wish for a console.

My thoughts exactly. I bought a PS3 back in the day just for these games. I'll wait another couple of years, and pick up a used PS4 for this too.

Serious question: If you're playing Tomb Raider on another platform, how does Uncharted become a system seller for you?

I guess I just don't see the uniqueness of it, which means it's not really a system seller to me. Is this title really that different from what you'd experience in the latest Tomb Raider?

I love the stories, and the characters. Tomb Raider is good, but Uncharted is GREAT!

To add to that... it's kind of like Allan Quatermain movies VS Indian Jones movies. Indy is just flat out better!

They may share similar premises and settings, but the two series are about as different from each other as you can get with two series about full-contact archaeology.

It'd be sort of like saying, "Well, I'm playing FPS X on the PS2, so why should I buy an Xbox for Halo?" Halo wasn't the only entry in the FPS genre, but it certainly refined the genre for consoles and quickly became a system seller. It bore plenty of similarities with contemporary (and older) titles, but it was simply good enough to get people to buy a console specifically for it.

The same could easily be said for the Uncharted series. There may be others like it, but they're probably not as good.

Well, I know it's a well loved series, but to me it looks to be the difference between eating at Burger King or eating at McDonald's...they're a little different, but it's the same 'genre' of food (fast), and if I have the one available, I really don't need to spend a ton on gas to get to the other one instead. I understand why some people may just like it better, though. There is one series right now that is as close to a system seller as it gets for me, and that's Red Dead Redemption. There are other open world games, but as BSoN said, I love the story, the characters, and it's just a great game.

So...got it. Doesn't work for me with Uncharted, but I can see it. This game just isn't it for me. RDR is. Man, I wish/hope they'd release RDR2 on the PC. Probably not, though. They hate money apparently.

Uncharted is just more "fun" than Tomb Raider. The original Uncharted is like playing a video-game version of Jewel of the Nile. It has just the right mix of action, comedy and chemistry between its actors. Which is not for everyone. My friend absolutely hates Uncharted because it is too goofy and the game is a little too much on rails, while he loves Tomb Raider as it is more open and little more grounded.

I never considered the Jewel of the Nile reference with Uncharted but you're right... And it's probably why I like the series .

The thing is Tomb Raider gives you the impression of it being open and there is freedom to go wherever but it still is ultimately on rails. The climbing aspects are straight up Uncharted. Really just the fact that you can visit previous areas is what sets it apart. You can obviously do more side things, especially with the crafting aspect, but it really is just building and trying to differentiate itself from the Uncharted formula which it has been successful with. I enjoy both series.

Character wise Lara is obviously a strong and interesting protagonist. The Uncharted series excels in making the protagonist, antagonist, and its side characters all interesting and feel more fleshed out than you see in Tomb Raider. The story trailer does a good job emphasizing that. Naughty Dog is good at story, and I am curious to see how this series "wraps" up under the direction of the Last of Us guys.
