The Shape of Water leads Oscar race, with 13 Nominations

Quote:
Oscar nominations for the 90th annual awards were announced on Tuesday morning from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Academy President John Bailey was joined by Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis to reveal the nominees in 24 categories.

Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” continued its awards show streak, leading the pack with 13 nominations. Martin McDonagh’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” followed behind with nine nods and “Dunkirk” with seven. All three films earned best picture nominations. The rest of the category was rounded out by “Call Me By Your Name,” “Darkest Hour,” “Get Out,” “The Phantom Thread,” and “The Post.”

The Academy Awards — hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second time — will air live on ABC on March 4.

I thought The Shape of Water was a decent film, but doesn't quite live up to all the praise that is being heaped on it. What you saw in the trailers is all there is.

I haven't seen a better movie than Dunkirk in years.

I was just blown away by the eeriness.

I have waffled on seeing Dunkirk since reviews are either love or hate.

I have only seen Get Out which is worth a viewing, otherwise I guess I don't watch Oscar worthy films.

Darkest Hour is a fine film.

I'm betting Call Me by your Name wins since nothing gets Hollywood quite as excited as an adult and a teenager having sex.

Saw Three Billboards a couple of weeks ago. An outstanding film. But you'll absolutely hate it if you need black and white, obvious heroes and obvious bad guys.

I really liked Get Out but don't think it's Oscar worthy.

Dunkirk was a lesson in how to produce tension in the viewer. Horror and thriller directors should study it at length.

It's pretty sad that Get Out is even mentioned in the same breath as "best picture". It's entertaining, but come on.....it's not one of the best movies of the year. The academy is so afraid they'll be called out by the blacks for not giving them equal representation that they will throw a token nom to anything created by people of color (black specifically). Black filmmakers better get busy or else we're going to see Black Panther get the nod next year regardless of whether or not it's a steaming pile of shit.
