Whether it is geared to be offensive or not, their way of thinking permeates their writing, and makes it just uninteresting to me.
I am not looking for interchangeable characters, I am not interested in what they have to say about life or anything.

I suppose I'll just rewatch Dune then, and wait for a new generation of writers to grow up with something interesting to say.

Love the Dune books. I read all the originals, but I haven't read them since I was in high school. I also have most of the expanded books. I'll have to start digging into those.

I just started reading Game of Thrones again. Amazing book. The guy is super talented, I can't wait to see the new book. (I just hope he finishes it before he dies of a heart attack!)

Just started watching Game Of Thrones... Now on episode 4, season 2. Tyrion Lannister is an absolute riot of a character.

Lexx is one of the most underrated sci-fi shows ever in my opinion. It was the best thing Syfy put out back then, WAY better than it's top show at the time which was called "Farscape". It's where I got my favorite line from a show of all time, and how I live my life to this day. From the episode "A Midsummer's Nightmare", where Stanley Tweedle fends off the advances of the Fairy King and tells him:

"Stanley H Tweedle goes in the front door, or he does not go to the party."

Highly recommended.

haha, yeah it's kinda fun just for how ridiculous it is. Maybe I just liked it for Eva Habermann. I don't know. I mean the show obviously was written by a bunch of weirdos, but somehow it's kinda entertaining to me. It's nowhere near DS9, Firefly, Dune, etc in my recommendation, but an "honorable mention" for some of the biggest oddities I've seen..

My favourite line would be "This last speciman of a now extinct culture of romantic dreamers merits punishment beyond death."

Gotta put in the intro of Firefly for good measure...

seriously loved this show... biggest regret it couldn't make it beyond season 1.

I know, right? How can you hate a series where an one episode featured one of the main characters playing a fluffer during the filming of a porno movie called "Deep Space 69"?

Seriously though, the previews on Sci-Fi network for this show showed a lot of that "sexy" type content so I wrote it off as cheeze. But then one night I managed to watch an episode and found out that it was MUCH better than it sounded.

Grr, after watching scenes from a few episodes on the YouTube I just went on Amazon and bought the complete series for Lexx on blu-ray... Eh, birthday is coming up and only $20 so not bad. Last I checked it was $20 for each season so bargain.

This will go with my TV series collection of:

The Prisoner (original)
Star Trek (TOS)
Babylon 5
Space 1999
Space Above And Beyond
Firefly
The Night Stalker (70's version)
Greatest American Hero
The Young Ones
Roger Ramjet
Ultraman (original series)

and now... Lexx.

So much to re-watch, so little time...

I figured Firefly went without having to be mentioned. I mean, it's Firefly.

When I have a desk at work these eventually end up on it (they actually have Alan Tudyk's voice recorded on them, this guy is lip syncing):

I am really surprised someone mentioned Space 1999... I first watched that show on ITV back in the 70s in England. It was my favorite! Dr. Who was for old people, Space 1999 was where it was at.

If we are going that far back we can't forget to mention Battlestar Galactica (pre-Earth, of course) and Buck Rogers, a show so far ahead of the curve in costuming it predicted yoga pants. Erin Grey was my first real TV crush though it probably took me till seeing her in the Blues Brothers before I figured out why.

What I found absolutely odd about the soundtrack was that the only inclusion of a non-female lead/vocal band used was Nirvana's "Memories". They included male driven brands like Carol wearing a NIN T-Shirt and Smashing Pumpkins posters being all over the wall at the phone booth she uses.

They should have really gone the full mile by not having any male bands present or represented at all.

And I laughed a little when Rambeau got upset when someone called her a "little lady" non-ironically as he was trying to be peaceful and respectful, but pulls out the "girl" and hugs Danvers when she fully realizes who she is as a human.

It is like when people who aren't black use the n-word. Do as I say, not as I do.

Great price on Lexx, I will have to pick it up. I liked the plant woman who eats everyone, those were great episodes.

Late to the party it seems but I thought Captain Marvel was just whatever, it was fine. Better than some MCU films like Iron Man 2 & 3. Maybe about as good as some of the other films that are okay to watch once, like Black Panther and Ant Man 2, yet I'd rather watch it again than all of those. It's pretty dumb at times.

But really I'll probably never watch it again. It was fine, whatever.

At what point are we going to start equalizing movie performances based on inflation? The value of the dollar gets less and less each month, and the cost of movies (based on D-Box, reserved seating, luxury recliners, etc) goes up steadily each month. I took my daughter to see Captain Marvel and spent $36.96 on two fucking tickets. Of course a movie is going to do $500 million when the ticket costs are almost double what they were just five years ago....

If you plan on watching movies with more than one person, then you should take advantage of being able to get cheap tickets one night a week that either comes as part of a subscription reward (Stubs for AMC) or a chain policy (CineMark sells all 2D showings on Tuesdays for $6.50). You can also lesson the burden by using something like the CineMark movie club that gives you one movie a month free, all other tickets (including guests) are $8.99, and you do not pay any service fee for reserving your seat online.

Naw no agenda pushing there not at all. Watch our shitty movies America men shouldn't be masculine, it's toxic. Fuck that noise. There's a reason I rarely go to theaters never mind watch many movies or tv at all, this kind of shit right here.

I'm pretty sure that the message isn't that men shouldn't be masculine, it's that men should actually show women some damn respect. At no point does femininity threaten me. I'm all for women having the same power, or more, as they have to carry children and have their bodies broken.

What I 'do' take issue with is women putting men down. Don't do the same thing that you're/you've complained about. Captain Marvel did not threaten my masculinity and I was more than happy to see the 'female' character overcome her issues.

There's a lot of men with a lot of issues out there! It's pretty obvious.

Third wave feminism is a fucked up mess. On the bright side, they typically don't want children, hence they don't reproduce.

The problem with films like Captain Marvel is that they really push it too far. Every male character in her life, aside from meeting Fury and Coulson, has been a massive and total dick. Baseball teamates. Dicks. Brothers. Dicks. Father. Total dick. Fellow Air Force cadets. Dicks. Male pilot. Dick. Person training her. Dick. Man on motorcycle. Dick.

It is this lack of nuance which gets people upset, not that there is an all-powerful female super hero in a male dominated world.
